Secondary School Outside of Canada

How to Apply
Applicants who are Permanent Canadian Residents, but the majority of their secondary school education has occurred in a country other than Canada, must apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) using the 105D application.

Applicants who are currently enrolled secondary school are strongly encouraged to submit an application by January 11.

Applicants who have graduated high school but have not attended university are strongly encouraged to submit an application early in 2006. The deadline to apply is March 1 for Media Studies and June 1 for all other programs.

Those who are applying to more than one program at the University of Guelph-Humber must rank their preferences on the application. Applicants will be offered admission to the highest ranked program for which they qualify.

All applicants are encouraged to complete a Student Profile form, which will be used for admission, scholarships and residence. Additional documents, such as proof of English Proficiency, may be requested.


Admission Requirements
The secondary school graduation certificate that would admit an applicant to an internationally recognized university in his or her home country is normally acceptable for admission to the University of Guelph-Humber. Applicants must also include senior-level subjects equivalent to the course required of graduates of Ontario secondary schools. Refer to the Admission Requirement Chart.


Submitting Documents and Timing and Conditions of Offers
Applicants who attended Secondary School Outside of Canada are required to submit all admission documents to the University of Guelph-Humber. Applicants may contact their secondary school and request that an official transcripts are sent to the University of Guelph-Humber, or they may personally collect their transcript from the school and drop it off or mail it to:

It is recommended that transcripts be sent as early as possible. The deadline to submit transcripts is June 12. Admission decisions will be made beginning in April for students and will continue to be made through June as admission documents are received.

Applicants who are currently enrolled in secondary school outside of Canada should send interim transcripts before April 1, and final transcripts at the end the academic year. Conditional offers of admission will be made based on interim transcripts (showing grades at the midpoint of the current academic year) whenever possible. All offers are conditional upon successful completion of a secondary school diploma or equivalent, completion of required courses, and a final admission average as outlined in the offer of admission.

Helpful Information
American Patterned Education System
Applicants from the United States must present their secondary school record along with any personal letter(s) of recommendation. Applicants should present a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and a combined Student Aptitude Test 1 (SAT 1) score of 1,100, or a minimum American College Testing (ACT) score of 24. If your secondary school ranks students, a top quarter ranking is preferable. All applicants are considered. These results are used as a 'guide' for admission decisions.

Applicants should include senior-level subjects appropriate to the program in which they are interested (for example, Math and English for the Business Program). Students educated in a language other than English should refer to our English proficiency requirements.


British Patterned Education System (General Certificate of Education):
Applicants presenting the General Certificate of Education (GCE) must show either:

1. passes in five subjects including two at the Advanced Level, OR
2. passes in four subjects of which at least three must be at the Advanced Level.


International Baccalaureate
Students applying with an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma should present a minimum score of 24. Currently enrolled IB candidates should submit “predicted” IB final results. Students should include the specific subject requirements for the program to which they are applying among their higher and standard level subjects. Transfer credit may be given for higher-level courses with grades of five or better.


Advanced Placement
Applicants who have completed Advanced Placement examinations with a minimum grade of four maybe eligible to receive university credit to a maximum of two credits, subject to the discretion of the Admissions Committee.
