Academic Information – Convocation 2010
In order to graduate during the June 21, 2010 Convocation Ceremony, you must complete all of your program requirements by the end of the Winter 2010 semester.
If you are completing any program requirement in the spring/ summer 2010 semester, you will be graduating next June with the class of 2011. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility to graduate, please contact your Program Advisor as soon as possible.
Academic Standing on Graduation
Standing on graduation is noted for graduates from the honours programs as follows:
• Degree with Distinction - Cumulative average of 80% or higher.
• Degree with Honours - Cumulative average of 70-79%.
• Degree with Standing - Cumulative average of less than 70%.
Standing is only based on the internal University of Guelph-Humber academic record.
Students who have consistently maintained a high average, but for whom a change in program, to part-time status in the graduating semester, or other anomalies have prevented placement on the Honours List, should consult Registrarial Services about eligibility for the Honours List.
Students graduating with Honours or Distinction will receive a notation in the Convocation Program. Students graduating with Distinction will be acknowledged during the convocation ceremony.
Vice-Provost Awards of for Academic Excellence
Students who are graduating from their programs with the highest cumulative averages receive the Vice-Provost Awards of for Academic Excellence. All recipients are acknowledged during the convocation ceremony. Applications are not required for this award; all graduating students are automatically considered.
Administrative Information – Convocation 2010
Application to Graduate
All students wishing to graduate must complete the application. This includes students who do not plan to attend the Convocation ceremony but wish to have their degree and diploma parchments mailed.
Paper applications are available in GH108 and must be submitted by Monday April 5th, 2010.
Paper-based applications are subject to a $60 processing fee.
Outstanding Fees
Any graduating student, who has an outstanding balance at the time of Convocation, will be placed on Financial Sanction and will not be issued the official degree or diploma parchment at the Convocation Ceremony.
Parchments will be withheld until payment is made.
Additional information about the ceremony (e.g. when graduating students and their guests should arrive, and what to wear and bring) will be available here in May.
Guests and Tickets
All graduating students are encouraged to invite family and/or friends to attend the ceremony. All students who are eligible to graduate will be mailed 3 guest tickets in May. Any student, who is not planning on attending the ceremony or will not be using all 3 tickets, is asked to let us know at graduate@guelphhumber.ca. Please note, graduating students do not require tickets.
Due to the capacity of the Pearson Convention Center, we are unable to provide students with extra tickets at this time. If students require additional tickets, we suggest that they secure extras through networking with other graduating students who will not require all 3 of their tickets.
If you wish to be put on a waiting list should any additional tickets become available, please email your name, program, student number, email address, phone number and number of extra tickets required to graduate@guelphhumber.ca. We will distribute extra tickets through a lottery system in early June.
Graduation Portraits
Graduation portraits for University of Guelph-Humber students have been arranged through the Humber Student's Federation (HSF).
University of Guelph-Humber students are eligible to attend Humber College session dates listed here.
All Guelph-Humber programs have a Graduating Class Composite. Participation on the Composite is optional but encouraged. Students who do not participate will not be included on the composite. To be included on the composite, students must have their picture taken by the last session date in April 2010. Students are encouraged book early in order to avoid the end of year rush.
The Sit Fee is $30.00 for those who wish to be included in the composite and $15 for those students who do not. The fee is for the time spent with the photographer, proofs, and inclusion on the Class Composite and a personal 11"x14" copy (if applicable).
Portrait Packages range from $25 - $235. Information on the various package options will be provided to you once you have your picture taken.
Please visit or call the HSF office to schedule an appointment.
For other questions about Graduation Portraits, please refer to Graduation Portraits -
Convocation Photography
The University will arrange for a professional photographer to document the Convocation ceremony, including individual photographs of students on stage, and posed with their diplomas. These images will be posted online shortly after the ceremony for viewing and purchase. Visit www.orderphotos.ca for more information.
Families of the Year Award
All graduating students are invited to nominate their families for the “Families of the Year” award.
Our families provide for our basic needs: food, clothing and shelter. Yet, they also bring love and purpose to our lives. They nurture us by supporting and challenging us. They inspire us to excel and make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. For these reasons, they are the fundamental building blocks of our society.
The University of Guelph-Humber recognizes that without families, exceptional students and strong institutions are not possible. The University of Guelph-Humber needs families to send students prepared to meet the challenges of higher education. Further, students continue to rely on the support of their families as they progress through their postsecondary journey and prepare for life beyond university.
Graduation is an important time to recognize and acknowledge families. The University of Guelph-Humber will honour the contributions that families have made to our graduating students by awarding our “Families of the Year” award. The “Families of the Year” will remind the Guelph-Humber community that strong, positive relationships and mutual support are important institutional values.
Nominations are due Friday, April 30, 2010. Click here for additional information and the Families of the Year Award Nomination Form.
