Awards and Bursaries for In-Course Students
University of Guelph-Humber Student Leadership Scholarships
These $1,500 scholarships were established to recognize outstanding student leadership contributions. They are awarded to students who have completed a minimum of two full-time semesters (minimum credit total of 4.0), have achieved a minimum cumulative average of 75% and who have made outstanding leadership contributions to the University of Guelph-Humber, the larger campus environment or their community.
- Apply to the University of Guelph-Humber Awards Committee (GH 112) by Feb 28th, 2012 with a one-page description of leadership contributions and two (2) letters of recommendation, one from an instructor and one from a member of the community served.
- This award may be held only once. Leadership may be demonstrated through involvement in activities such as student government, athletics, volunteer experiences and work in organizations outside of the campus. Leadership involvement will be the deciding factor in awarding scholarships.
University of Guelph-Humber Merit Scholarships
These $1,500 scholarships were established to recognize outstanding academic achievement by academic program. The scholarships are awarded to full-time University of Guelph-Humber students who have a minimum 80% cumulative average, calculated on the basis of the most recently completed two full-time semesters.
- Recipients of the Merit Scholarship will be selected from students placing in the top ten percent (10%) of their program by year, based on credit total, as listed below:
- All students who have completed between 4.0 and 5.0 credits will be considered in the Year One cohort of their program for assessment of the merit awards.
- All students who have completed between 9.0 and 10.0 credits will be considered in the Year Two cohort of their program for assessment of the merit awards.
- No application is required for the Merit Scholarships. All students will be considered after final grades are recorded in late April. Winners of the Merit Scholarship will be informed in late June each year.
The J.P. Bickell Foundation Award
This award of $800 has been made available through a generous grant from the J.P Bickell Foundation. The award supports a student with great financial need in any of University of Guelph-Humber's social service programs (Family and Community Social Services, Early Childhood or Justice Studies). Applicants must submit a one page description of their volunteer work, a letter of reference from someone who can attest to the candidate's commitment to volunteerism, as well as a Financial Need Assessment Form provided by Registrarial Services. Application must be made by November 1, 2011. The successful candidate will be notified in December.
The Guss-Credit Union Bursary
This award of $1,500 is presented in honour of Jonathan Guss, retired CEO of the Credit Union Central of Ontario, by his colleagues, co-workers and affiliated credit unions across Canada. The award supports students with great financial need in their pursuit of an undergraduate education in any of University of Guelph-Humber's academic programs. Applicants must complete a Needs Assessment Form provided by Registrarial Services. Application must be made by November 1, 2011. The successful candidate will be informed in December.
The Philip Santangelo Memorial Bursary
Created in memory of Phillip Santangelo, a member of the second graduating class at the University of Guelph-Humber, and with the aid of the Ontario government’s OTSS program, this $2,500 bursary is available to students who have completed a minimum of 4.0 credits in the Business Program (BBA) at the University of Guelph-Humber.
If there are no suitable applicants in the Business Program, the bursary will be made available to a student who has completed a minimum of 4.0 credits in any University of Guelph-Humber program. Selection will be based on demonstrated financial need. Interested students should apply by November 1, 2011 to the Scholarship and Awards Committee, University of Guelph- Humber, with a completed Financial Need Assessment Form - these forms are available in GH112.
The Guelph-Humber Student Association (GHSA) Student Excellence Scholarship
This award recognizes students possessing exceptional leadership abilities, integrity and commitment to the betterment of society, in addition to their undergraduate studies. The GHSA will give three awards of $1,000 each.
Apply no later than March 9th, 2012.

Leadership Development Conference Fund*
Student leaders play an instrumental role in shaping student life at the University of Guelph-Humber. The Leadership Development Conference Fund has been created to support students’ desire to enhance their leadership skills by attending a professional conference chosen by the Student Life department. University of Guelph-Humber Gold Medallion for Leadership Excellence
The University of Guelph-Humber recognizes the important role student leaders play on our campus. The University of Guelph-Humber Gold Medallion for Leadership Excellence recognizes students who have made significant, ongoing leadership contributions to their program.

University of Guelph-Humber Bursary
Provided to a student on the basis of financial need only. Financial need is determined by the University of Guelph-Humber's Bursary Committee after an evaluation of the Financial Need Assessment Form has been submitted by the student. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada to be considered for bursaries.
John Holland Excellence in Justice Studies Award
This annual award honours John Holland, who has earned more than 50 years of law enforcement experience in the U.S., including as a Senior Program Specialist and retired member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre.
For a number of years Mr. Holland has kindly volunteered to teach University of Guelph-Humber Justice Studies students.
This award recognizes a Justice Studies student with a cumulative average of 75% or higher. The recipient must also demonstrate a commitment to ethical behaviour in all curriculum assignments, practice volunteerism within the program, value diversity and respect fellow students and faculty members.
Chartwells' Bursary
The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are proud to announce the creation of the Chartwells' Bursary.
To receive the bursary one must:
- be living in Humber residence and a full-time Guelph-Humber student.
- demonstrate financial need as defined by the bursary application process.
- have a clear record in terms of the Residence Code of Conduct and the Humber and Guelph-Humber Charters.
Preference is given to students who have not received a student financial aid bursary during this academic year.

Humber Students' Federation Bursary
The Humber Students' Federation advocates on behalf of nearly 25,000 full-time students at the University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College. This bursary assists students experiencing financial hardship. Preference is given to students who aren't receiving OSAP and have demonstrated a commitment to their program of study. The bursary supplements on an immediate and temporary basis. Bursary amounts may vary according as per need.
