Business professor visits from San Andrés University

Last week, it was the University of Guelph-Humber’s turn to play host.

Sebastian Garcia-Dastugue from San Andrés University in Buenos Aires guest-lectured Business students in Logistics and International Trade and Latin America Regional classes.

The visit follows program head Dr. George Bragues’s trip to Argentina in May 2011. Media Studies program head Jerry Chomyn also visited San Andres last spring.

“I’ve never taught in Canada. This was my first experience,” said Garcia-Dastugue, Director of the Faculty of Management at San Andrés. He specializes in business-to-business relationships and supply chain-management.

During his lectures, Garcia-Dastugue discussed Argentina’s culture, society and economy and drew out some points of comparison between home and host country.

“Canada is similar to Argentina, and some other Latin American countries, in terms of a heavy reliance on natural resources,” he said. “Both countries are made by immigrants. There’s a strong similarity there as well.”

This ongoing exchange gives Guelph-Humber students “an international perspective – that is, insights about the way business is conducted abroad, the distinctive political, economic, social, and cultural factors that need to be considered when doing commerce abroad,” according to Bragues.

Dr. Chris Dubelaar, department head of marketing at Bond University in Queensland, Australia, also spent the week at the University of Guelph-Humber.
