Survey shows Library Services’ success
The results from a student survey conducted in November reflect a positive view of Library Services.
“Since our move to a dedicated Library Services space in GH204 this past summer, we’ve seen a phenomenal increase in the number of students we serve,” said Nancy Birch, Manager, Library Services.
Survey data showed student-visits to GH204 grew by 219% over Library Services’ previous location in the Writing Centre.
“Library Services is much more visible now and we’re very pleased that more students are coming to us for research and library assistance,” said Birch.
Each program has its own Liaison Librarian, who looks after students’ research, information literacy and collection needs. This involves librarians visiting classes. In-class presentations rose 29% when comparing the fall 2010 semester with fall 2011.

All of this has translated into a high satisfaction rate among student respondents, who numbered 487, or 13% of the total Guelph-Humber population.
Students who were very satisfied with the librarians’ instruction reached 99.1%, while 96.6% of respondents found the library useful. Furthermore, roughly 75% of students felt they received higher marks due to their Liaison Librarian’s instruction.
Humber College students also come to GH204. And, staff from Humber and Guelph-Humber work closely together. “To maintain service levels, we plan and participate in training exchanges with our partners in Humber Library,” said Birch.
The staff of both Humber and Guelph-Humber hold learning sessions to share new and relevant research tools that have been purchased by either side.
