University of Guelph-Humber Hosts Spring Convocation

Close to 1,000 students to be honoured at 2017 ceremonies

TORONTO, ON – On Monday, June 19, 2017, more than 3,600 University of Guelph-Humber students, faculty, and guests will take part in spring 2017 convocation ceremonies being held at Pearson Convention Centre.

Graduating students from University of Guelph-Humber’s seven undergraduate programs receive an honours degree from the University of Guelph and a diploma from Humber College.

“I extend my sincerest congratulations to each of our 2017 graduates and their families,” says Dr. John Walsh, vice-provost University of Guelph-Humber. “With their degree, diploma and extensive work placement experience in hand, our students leave the university very well equipped to enter their profession, or go on to pursue further studies.”

This year’s University of Guelph-Humber convocation keynote speakers include:

  1. Jonathan Hood, former Canadian Football League (CFL) linebacker for the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and founder of Ahead of the Game youth mentorship program. Over the past year Hood has brought his leadership and motivation program to the university and its students.
  2. Dr. Ron Stansfield, one of the founders of University of Guelph-Humber, and the original department head of the Justice Studies program who has been teaching at the university in this program ever since. Dr. Stansfield is an associate professor at the University of Guelph, and was the 2017 recipient of the University of Guelph-Humber Faculty/Staff Mentoring Award.
  3. Tom McKaig began teaching in the Business program at University of Guelph-Humber in 2005. Over the past 12 years, McKaig has brought his research, and international business and diplomatic connections into the classroom. McKaig was a previous winner of the University of Guelph-Humber Faculty/Staff Mentoring Award, and his 5th edition of Global Business Today will be released in January, 2018.

The 2017 Vice-Provost Award recipients will also be highlighted as part of convocation ceremonies. This prestigious award is presented to the graduating student with the highest cumulative average in each program.
