Theo Selles has been teaching at the University of Guelph-Humber since 2012. Selles is a Registered Family Therapist with 25 years of experience offering therapy to individuals, couples, families and groups. He earned his Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Guelph in 1993 with a thesis on adolescent suicide. A highlight of his career was when he was chosen as the Master of Ceremonies for Toronto’s United Nations International Day for People with Disabilities in 2009 due to his work with Epilepsy Toronto. Selles maintains a private practice and provides trauma debriefing, resiliency training, mental health wellness workshops, and teambuilding services to organizations.  Selles' business— Integrity Works helps people live meaningful, purposeful, productive, and ethical lives at home and at work. He is a regular on-air contributor to AM900 CHML. His latest book, The Heart of the Pearl is a guide to overcoming abuse.

Joanne Shenfeld has been an instructor at the University of Guelph-Humber since 2016. She worked as a Social Worker for 25 years at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, mainly in the area of youth concurrent disorders. Her work in the field of youth mental health has included professional training, program development and several clinical publications. She created the Family Service at CAMH, one of the first stand-alone family support programs for mental health and addictions. She also served as a reviewer for the Canadian Centre for Accreditation. Shenfeld’s teaching at the University of Guelph-Humber continues this focus on clinical support and supervision.

Paul Sherman - image

Dr. Paul Sherman has been the Program Head of Family & Community Social Services at the University of Guelph-Humber (UofGH) since 2010. Prior to 2015, he also served as Program Head of Early Childhood Studies at the university. Dr. Sherman is also Adjunct Professor at the University of Guelph and Director of the Soka Education Research Centre on Global Citizenship (SERC-GC) at UofGH. In 2019 he was invited to join the Board of Directors of the Soka Gakkai International Association of Canada. Prior to joining UofGH, Dr. Sherman worked as a clinician and senior administrator in diverse community mental health settings for over 30 years. His doctoral research examined global citizenship education in higher education, with a particular emphasis on the cultivation of global citizenship identity and engagement. He continues to teach and conduct research in this area and has published scholarly articles in journals such as Social Work Education; Journal of Global Citizenship & Equity Education; Citizenship, Teaching and Learning; and Evaluation and Program Planning. Dr. Sherman was awarded research grants from Lancaster University in 2016 and 2017, a UofGH research grant in 2017, and a multi-year funding grant in 2017 from the Makiguchi Foundation for Education to establish and develop a research centre on Soka education at UofGH.

Sharon Singh - image

Sharon Singh has taught at the University of Guelph-Humber since 2018, while also practising in a range of progressive roles in the social work field. Sharon is an alumna of the University of Guelph-Humber, graduating in 2015 with the Vice-Provost Award for Academic Excellence. She then went on graduate from the prestigious Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto with her Master of Social Work in 2017. She has a wealth of experience in the areas of individual, family and community need and a particular interest in mentoring and promoting development in others. She specializes in brief, solution-focused therapy and cognitive-behavioural therapy; as well as evidence-based practises using a strength-based approach. Singh draws on her experience within child welfare agencies, community mental health, program development and hospital settings to support the learning of future helpers making their way through the University of Guelph-Humber.
