Dr. David Danto has been the Program Head of Psychology at the University of Guelph-Humber (UofGH) since 2010 and is also Adjunct Professor at the University of Guelph. Registered as a Clinical Psychologist in Ontario, Dr. Danto is a Trustee for the Psychology Foundation of Canada (PFC) and served as Chair of the Canadian Psychological Association’s (CPA) Indigenous Peoples’ Psychology section. Recently the Chair of the CPA and PFC Task Force on Responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report, he currently Chairs the CPA Standing Committee on Reconciliation, and serves on the CPA Education and Training Committee and the Board of Directors.  In addition to his teaching portfolio, Dr. Danto has worked clinically and administratively in psychiatric hospitals, university counselling centres, private practice, and correctional facilities in Canada and the United States. Dr. Danto’s research centers on mental health among Indigenous Peoples, with specific focus on the relationship between the land and healing. He is under contract with Springer Publishing as the author/co-editor of two texts, one addressing Indigenous mental health globally, and the other addressing psychological assessment with Indigenous clients. Dr. Danto was awarded UofGH research grants in 2012, 2013 and 2017, 2018 and won the UofGH Faculty Mentorship Award in 2014.

Dr. Joseph De Leo has been an instructor in the Psychology program at the University of Guelph-Humber since 2017. Dr. De Leo maintains an active clinical practice and provides assessment and treatment services to individuals with complex mental and physical health conditions, including chronic pain. Dr. De Leo completed postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina where he contributed to the development of a brief behavioural intervention for individuals with co-occurring psychiatric and addictions issues. His research and training initiatives focus on the integration of technology-enhanced approaches to treatment. De Leo identifies as a lifelong student and learner, with a strong passion for teaching.

Dr. Nitin Deckha has been an instructor in the Justice Studies, Early Childhood Studies and Electives programs at the University of Guelph-Humber since 2006.  Dr. Deckha worked in advertising and marketing before settling into post-secondary teaching. He has also taught at the University of Toronto, McMaster University and Humber College. Dr. Deckha has undertaken research exploring gender, educational experiences and career aspirations of university-going women and men and is currently researching how the Toronto Police Service has supported higher education opportunities for its members and how the completion of higher education has helped it meets it’s learning and organizational goals. In addition to teaching, Dr. Deckha creates and leads learning in diversity, inclusion and leadership and is a certified training and development professional.
