Convocation 2021

GH Grad Photo Experience

Grad Photo Experience

The University of Guelph-Humber will be hosting an exclusive GH Grad Photo Experience event for all graduates who were unable to attend an in-person Convocation ceremony in 2020 and/or 2021 due to the COVID pandemic. This event will be hosted at Pearson Convention Centre on Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8, 2021, and is open to all Fall 2019, Spring 2020, Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 graduates.

Graduates can bring their closest supporters to join us and say cheese at four unique Convocation-themed photo stations that will help capture your celebration, including a walk across the Convocation stage and ringing the GH bell! Our friends at Studio Nostalgia will be on-site helping us capture these special moments, with opportunities for supporter selfies in-between. Exclusive digital photo packages will be available for purchase from Studio Nostalgia as well.

All graduates who are interested in attending the GH Grad Photo Experience must register in advance. To help with COVID-19 safety protocols, all attendees must register for a specific 30-minute timeslot. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis – there is no extra availability once a timeslot is full. Physical distancing rules will be enforced, and masks will be mandatory inside Pearson Convention Centre, except where photos are being taken. All guests will be required to fill out a COVID-19 screening form upon their arrival at Pearson as part of the registration process and will be required to follow the Ontario government's provincial requirements for accessing conference centres. As per the direction of the Ontario government, attendees will need to be fully vaccinated (two doses plus 14 days) and provide their proof of vaccination along with photo ID to attend the event.

Convocation 2021

Land Acknowledgement

Let’s begin by acknowledging the Indigenous peoples of the lands on which the University of Guelph-Humber is situated.

The University of Guelph-Humber is located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Alders” in Michi Saagiig language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all.

Convocation provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon our experience during our time in this space of learning and the relationships we have built. The land that surrounds us is part of who we are; it reflects our histories. We need to protect and honour the history and Indigenous peoples of this land. As settlers, we must all be committed to furthering our understanding of the past and the present so that we may each, in our own ways, move forward in a spirit of reconciliation.

We are all visitors to this land. As we gather now on this virtual platform, you are encouraged to learn more about the land and the history of the Indigenous peoples here and wherever you may reside.
