First Year Students Success Guide:

  • Library Services - University of Guelph-Humber Library Services has many important resources for students to make their transition to university stress-free. Do you need a quiet place to study? Book a study room. Do you have an upcoming presentation and you need to practice presenting? You can showcase your skills by booking the practice presentation room and record and review your presentation.
  • Proper Citation Tutorial – During your academic career at University of Guelph-Humber you will need to know how and when to reference your scholarly resources in your assignments, projects, and essays. The Proper Citation Tutorial will assist you in understanding citation usage and styles.
  • Research databases – University of Guelph-Humber subscribes to 506 databases in order to provide students and faculty with the latest online resources. Databases are the pinnacle of your academic life here at UofGH. You will need to use various databases that pertain to your academic program or relevant course subjects you are taking. The online databases contain thousands of expert research content and materials that will aid you during your academic career. UofGH Librarians have assembled LibGuides for each academic program that is offered at University of Guelph-Humber. There are hundreds of journal articles available on the UofGH Library website. Browse through the hundreds of databases to locate peer reviewed journal articles in any subject matter.
  • Find books and eBooks – Browse through University of Guelph-Humber's library catalogue to locate the Books/ eBooks you are looking for. If you cannot locate an eBook or print copy, request a copy through the RACER’s request form. Simply complete the form online and wait to receive an email notification when your materials arrive.  
  • Citation styles/guides – In addition to the Proper Citation Tutorial, you can download and review the online citation guides. These helpful guides are very useful for ensuring that you are citing your content the ethical and academic way.
  • Research help - Make an appointment with a Librarian to help you with your research OR come and visit the reference staff for immediate assistance  researching, and locating the right databases. Visit us on level 2 in room GH203.
  • Research Support Peers (RSPs) - Research Support Peers (RSPs) are current students who are available to help students with research for assignments. Research Support Peers are located on level 2 of the UofGH building in the Learning Commons. RSPs can assist you with:
    • Developing search strategies
    • Finding books, journal articles and videos
    • Locating course reserves
    • Requesting material from our partner libraries
    • Citing sources
  • Peer Tutoring Peer tutoring is located in the Humber College Learning Resources Commons building on the 3rd floor. Peer tutoring is available to University of Guelph-Humber students. Peer Tutors are your fellow students who have achieved 80% or higher in their courses. There are tutors available in various subject matters and will offer 3 hours of tutoring per week.
