University of Guelph-Humber Celebrates Student Success at Spring 2018 Convocation

Close to 1,200 students to graduate during three ceremonies

TORONTO, ON – On Monday, June 18, 2018 close to 1,200 University of Guelph-Humber (UofGH) students will graduate during three ceremonies scheduled to take place at Pearson Convention Centre.

Graduating students from UofGH’s seven undergraduate programs will receive an honours degree from the University of Guelph and a diploma from Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Over their four years of studies, students also completed hundreds of hours of practical work experience, in the field and with industry experts.

“Congratulations to each and every one of our 2018 graduates and their families,” says Dr. John Walsh, vice-provost University of Guelph-Humber. “With your degree, diploma and practical work experience in hand, you are now uniquely positioned to enter career employment or go on to pursue graduate studies. I wish you much success in your future endeavors.”                                           

This year’s UofGH convocation keynote speakers include:  

  1. Dr. Shawna Coxon - In her 21st year of policing with Toronto Police Services and recently appointed deputy chief of police, Dr. Coxon has been an instructor in the Justice Studies program at UofGH for more than a decade.   
  2. Patricia J. Parsons - A veteran public relations professional and published author, Parsons spent 26 years on faculty at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, NS.

  3. Dr. Alvina Cassiani - Dean of Humber College’s Business School, Dr. Cassiani is an experienced innovator who has forged international partnerships around the world to provide study abroad opportunities and pathways for students.

The 2018 Vice-Provost Award recipients will also be highlighted as part of convocation ceremonies. This prestigious award is presented to the graduating student with the highest cumulative average in each program. 

2018 Vice-Provost Award recipients are: Thi Ngoc Huyen Le, Business; Elizabeth Ericka Deakin-Poot, Early Childhood Studies; Lakhan Bali, Family and Community Social Services; Joey Villella, Kinesiology; Jasmine Ria Irven, Media Studies; Sarah Cool, Psychology; Sarah Beck, Justice Studies BAA, and Emma Elizabeth Kelly, Justice Studies.
