2015 Year in Review

2015 was a busy year for the University of Guelph-Humber. The University had its biggest graduating class ever, an alumnus took on a high-profile job, and a new feathered member was added to the UofGH family.

As we look forward to 2016, lets look back at some of the top moments from the year.


Alumnus named Chief of Toronto Police 

UofGH Alumnus Mark Saunders

Mark Saunders, a graduate of UofGH’s Justice Studies Degree Completion Program was named the new Chief of the Toronto Police Service. Chief Saunders will now oversee the force of approximately 5500 uniformed officers and 2500 civilian members.

Emerge Magazine wins international prize

The publication, created by UofGH Media Studies students, took home the National Pacemaker Award for Outstanding Print Magazine.
“The magazine and its related media products have had incredible success in international competitions in recent years, but hearing that we won a Pacemaker is a particular thrill. American recipients of this prize call it the Pulitzer of college and university journalism and media, so it's extremely satisfying to know that we are playing in those leagues,” says Kimberley Noble, the professor who leads the Emerge project.

UofGH partners with City Law School, City University London

UofGH Building

A new partnership between UofGH and the prestigious law school means that all UofGH graduates can now benefit from secured admission into The City Law School’s postgraduate program.

UofGH unveils new mascot 

Vice-Provost John Walsh introduces campus' new mascot, Swoop the Great Horned Owl

The UofGH family was joined this year by Swoop the Great Horned Owl. After a deliberation process that included students, staff, faculty and alumni, Swoop was chosen to be the university’s mascot. When Swoop isn’t soaring around campus, he makes his home in the Student Services office.
