University of Guelph-Humber

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College will be lowering flags on campus to half-mast today to honour the children who lost their lives at the Kamloops Indian Residential School and their families, and the countless others who never returned home from Residential Schools across Canada.

Our thoughts are with the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and Indigenous communities who are mourning this devastating loss and grappling with the intergenerational effects of Residential Schools.

Flags across the country have also been lowered or will be lowered in honour of the children, including at all federal buildings and establishments.

We will stand alongside Indigenous communities to always remember the lost lives of Indigenous peoples.

Lastly, we understand the need and value of support during this challenging time. Below is a list of services available to staff and students.

Resources for students and staff

• Students can contact the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre for support.
• GoodToTalk (1-866-925-5454) is a 24-hour mental health support for Post-Secondary Students in Ontario.
• Therapy Assist Online
• Staff may also access Employee Assistance Plan services.

Additional Mental Health and Well-Being Supports for Indigenous Community members

• A national crisis line has been set up to provide support for former Residential School students and those affected. Emotional and crisis referral services can be accessed by calling the 24-hour crisis line at: 1-866-925-4419.
