Julie Goldenson, Ph.D., C.Psych., has been named Assistant Program Head of the University of Guelph-Humber’s Psychology Program.

“At this exciting time of growth and change for the psychology program, Dr. Goldenson gives our students and our program as a whole a tremendous advantage,” says Dr. David Danto, program head of psychology.

“She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, as both a clinical and a forensic psychologist, while offering an active and rich research base,” he says.

Dr. Goldenson’s private practice offers comprehensive clinical and forensic services to adolescent and adult populations who present with a wide range of biopsychosocial concerns.

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Goldenson provided psychotherapy, crisis intervention and brief assessment with the University of Toronto’s Counselling and Psychological Services.  There, she also provided training to Doctoral and Masters level interns.

She has worked at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, with the Toronto District School Board, at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Vancouver, BC, and at the Forensic Psychiatric Clinic at San Diego Superior Court.

Dr. Danto:  “She understands what it means to work in government, in a forensic environment, in a psychiatric hospital, in a clinical environment, in a school environment, in private practice – her incredible range of experiences will no doubt be of tremendous advantage to our psychology students.”

Dr. Goldenson’s research falls largely in the domain of forensic psychology, with a focus on juvenile delinquency and female intimate partner violence.

“She has remained an active researcher throughout her career, providing great opportunity for our students to work alongside and gain invaluable experience as research assistants.”

Dr. Goldenson holds a Doctor of Philosophy, Clinical Psychology, and a Master of Arts, Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, an Honours Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, from York University, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts, Criminology, from Carleton University.

She is a member of the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services, the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abuse, the Canadian Academy for Psychologists in Disability Assessment, the Canadian Psychological Association, the American Psychology-Law Society, and the Ontario Psychological Association.

Her appointment began July 9, 2015.
