A team of four Business students from the University of Guelph-Humber has won the 2016 Scotiabank Ethics in Action Case Competition. Held at Dalhousie University in Halifax, the competition featured teams from universities across Canada and the U.S. Students were presented with concrete business situations that challenged them to integrate ethical principles into management.

The University of Guelph-Humber’s winning team was made up of Niha Shujaat, Alisha Sahota, Sierra Mills, and Parisa Khazra. In second and third place respectively were student teams from the University of Prince Edward Island and Concordia University.

Justin Medakiewicz, Assistant Program Head of Business, was the coach of Guelph-Humber’s team. “The students put a lot of effort into preparing for this competition”, he points out. “The hard work paid off”, he adds, “as they presented a well thought-out ethical strategy and showed great poise in dealing with tough questions from the judges.”

In explaining the team’s success at the competition, Parisa Khazra believes, “that it came down to the team’s chemistry." “We supported each other”, she notes, “and collaborated to make sure everyone’s strengths were highlighted.”
