Parent Advice

Being a parent or family member of a student in university comes with a lot of challenges and learning lessons. To help new GH parents and families, we’re asking for quotes of advice from parents of current students. We’ll use your advice to help new parents and families as we welcome them into the University of Guelph-Humber community.

Here’s what some University of Guelph-Humber parents are saying:

“I encouraged my son to get involved in a club or society outside class time. It’s made a huge difference in his experience because he’s been able to meet so many more students just by becoming involved."

– Parent of a second-year Business student

“The transition from high school to university means that my daughter was in class for less time than she used to be when she was in high school. I had to get used to the idea that she now has a lot more studying to do outside of class hours and less time physically spent in classes. I am trying to respect her new schedule and let her make decisions on her own about when to study, sleep and hang out with friends. It’s been a transition for me just as much as it has been a transition for her!"

– Parent of first-year Psychology student
