Build a substantial foundation.

Working in psychology means beginning with the foundations.  What ideas have influenced the field?  How has technology enabled us to better understand human development?  From personality psychology to neuroscience, learn to make sense of psychology literature.

Understand how ethics in research have evolved.   Learn to evaluate the strength of research findings.  Understand how to effectively design and analyze a research project so that you may become a contributor to the field.  An education in many aspects of psychology lets you confidently find your place within it.

See why applied learning means more than the title of your credentials.

It’s what distinguishes this program – and it’s what will distinguish you, whether you choose to compete for graduate school or enter the competitive workforce.  That’s why we’ve integrated applied learning in so many ways throughout your four years.

Learn how psychology is being applied in new ways among disciplines within the field and beyond.  Learn about drugs and behaviour, about learning difficulties, about the kinds of ways we are persuadable and motivated.  See why psychologists are being increasingly relied upon to inform public policy and organizational structures.

Then see it for yourself in the field.

You have several ways of getting hands-on field experience.  With a minimum 60 hours of work experience in community mental health, you’ll contribute to and learn about the field under direct supervision.  Tailor your experiences by choosing to study in any number of places from brain injury clinics to correctional facilities, to schools or hospitals.  Work with a prestigious potential supervisor who is as committed to your education as we are.

Examine mental health among Cree communities in Northern Ontario by traveling there.  Our field study takes you by plane, train, boat and helicopter so that you can gain a better understanding of the notable disparities in mental health outcomes between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal populations – an increasingly significant area among psychologists in Canada and throughout the world.

Gain an edge.  Get undergraduate research experience.

You’ll notice our research program is slightly different than most.  Its entire structure is designed to give you an edge so that you’ll stand out when the time comes. Gain hands-on experience with the methodological and ethical procedures that will prepare you to be a contributor to the field.

A small learning environment is a better learning environment.

We can’t stress this enough.  Personalized service is engrained in the UofGH experience.  You’ll not only be part of a small classroom, but you’ll go through your four years at UofGH with the same group of peers.  This means learning together, working together, growing together.  You’ll get to know our names and we’ll get to know yours.

Interested in a particular area?  We’ll work one on one with you to make sure you’re on the right path – from choosing the right courses to choosing the right placements to ensuring you’ve got all necessary requirements for further education.
