Silicon Valley & Las Vegas: Investing vs. Gambling

In this course, students explore the nature of investing and gambling by traveling to two of the most famous cities exemplifying those activities, Silicon Valley and Las Vegas.  In Silicon Valley, students will journey to a high- tech hub of venture capital, while in Las Vegas they will tour the world’s second largest gambling market. Venture capital is a high-risk form of investing that is often linked to gambling, but there are important differences between the two. Students will contrast investing and gambling through visits to investment firms, ventured capital financed companies, and casinos.
