Society Staff and Faculty Advisors

To support you in your roles as Society Executives, here’s a detailed breakdown of your two key advisor positions. This information will clarify the distinct functions and contributions of each advisor, ultimately enhancing your collaboration and effectiveness.

Faculty Advisor Role

  • To provide industry knowledge that aligns with the program of study
  • To encourage student engagement and involvement outside of the classroom.
  • To provide mentorship and support individually and to teams
  • Offer feedback on society activities
  • Communicate in a timely manner

Society executives should contact their Staff Advisors with any questions regarding society policies and procedures. 

Staff Advisor Role

  • Oversee the society's structural and operational needs
    • Organize and facilitate society executive hiring and training
    • Review proposed activities and budgets to approve content and coordinate funding
    • Connect society executives with relevant campus resources for event support (ex. Alumni Services, Career Services, Facilities)
  • Facilitate the application and approval process for new societies and new executive positions
  • Meets monthly with society president and/or other executives during the academic year
  • Ensure societies follow university guidelines and policies
  • Challenge society executives to work together to solve problems
  • Offer feedback on society activities
  • Communicate in a timely manner
