Founders' Academic Merit Scholarship

$36,000 ($9,000 X 4) total funding per recipient

The Founders' Academic Merit Scholarship recognizes academic achievement, leadership and extracurricular activities. Every year, 10 students are awarded a Founders' Academic Merit Scholarship. Each recipient receives $9,000 per academic year over four years of full-time study, for a total of $36,000.

Note: The Founders’ Academic Merit Scholarship cannot be combined with the Vice-Provost Entrance Award or the Renewable Entrance Scholarship.

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • Applicant must be entering post-secondary studies for the first time as a student.
  • Applicant must be entering any full-time degree program offered by the University of Guelph-Humber.
  • Applicants must have a minimum admission average of 90% (inclusive of subject requirements) based on grades submitted.
  • Applicant must have demonstrated significant leadership achievements through participation in school and/or community activities.
  • Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • This award cannot be held with the Guelph-Humber Student Leadership Scholarship, the University of Guelph’s President’s and Chancellors’ Scholarships or the University of Guelph’s Board of Governors’ Scholarships.
  • Out of Province Applicants only: Please have your high school Guidance Counsellor or School Administrator email your official transcript by February 28 to admissions@guelphhumber.ca. Your transcript must include grades for all completed and in-progress grade 11 and 12 courses to be considered for the scholarship.

Renewability:

  • If you have been awarded a Founders' Academic Merit Scholarship, we will automatically consider you for each renewal year.
  • You must maintain a 2.0 credit course load or more in both the Fall and Winter semesters before the year of renewal. Note: courses completed on a Letter of Permission do not count towards the course load.
  • If you do not receive renewal one year, you are still eligible in subsequent years if your cumulative average of the fall and winter semesters rises within the award levels.
  • This scholarship is eligible for renewal for three calendar years from the term of admission only.
  • You must achieve a minimum 80% average in the previous academic year.
  • You must submit an annual report which outlines their participation, accomplishments and leadership in campus and/or community activities each year. Students will be contacted in late June/early July every year with report requirements.

Deadline: For Fall 2026 entry, applications are now closed. Application for Fall 2027 entry will become available in December 2026. 

Receiving your scholarship

You must be registered in 2.0 credits or more in the Fall and Winter semesters.  We will automatically credit your scholarship to your University account. The scholarship amount for each year will be divided into two equal payments: one at the beginning of the fall semester and the other at the beginning of the winter semester.
