Pride at U of GH 2026: On-campus resources for Guelph-Humber’s LGBTQ+ community

Two hands holding up four rainbow pride flags

At the University of Guelph-Humber (U of GH), you belong. U of GH is an institution where all are welcome, and it places a strong emphasis on inclusion and belonging.

Each June, we observe Pride Month – a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ identities and reflect on the community’s history. At U of GH, the work to create equitable spaces is ongoing and we want every student to feel supported throughout each month of the year.

Through Humber Polytechnic’s LGBTQ+ Resource Centre, Guelph-Humber students who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community have a multitude of supports available to them. The LGBTQ+ Resource Centre works to promote safer, braver, positive spaces at Humber and U of GH, and offers a dedicated space on campus for people to connect with one another, access resources, and build community.

Events:

There will be an opening ceremony and a flag raising on June 2, 2026, to kick off Pride Month on North Campus at noon. This event is hosted by the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging in partnership with the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre, as they invite the Guelph-Humber and Humber communities to celebrate and connect with others for a month dedicated to reflection, learning, advocacy, and joy.

Resources:

Students at Guelph-Humber who identify as LGBTQ+ could access helpful information through the Resource Centre, including the first name change form (for students to change their first and/or middle name on their student accounts), the Human Rights Policy (including Gender Diversity Policy), the student code of conduct (students have the right to make a complaint against any community member who violates their right to a safe and welcoming educational environment), and mental health services through counselling and the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre (SWAC). These resources are available for optimal student support so that everyone can feel safe and respected.

Furthermore, the University of Guelph-Humber and Humber Polytechnic Library has LGBTQ+ novels, graphic novels, memoirs, short stories, self-help, children’s books, and Queer and Social Theory reading materials. The library has a Read with Pride collection and a 2SLGBTQ+ Education Guide for academic or personal research.

  • QRAFTY: This drop-in arts and crafts program serves as a creative space to engage LGBTQ+ students in conversation and community.
  • Queer Book Club: This book club is a queer-facilitated discussion group dedicated to reading novels that tackle a variety of LGBTQ+ subject matter.
  • BlaQ Collective: This group, in collaboration with Black Student Support and Engagement (BSSE), holds space for Black, African, and Caribbean LGBTQ+ students.
  • Q-Social: This is a space for LGBTQ+ students to have fun and build community through connection, playing games, watching movies, and more.
