Alpha Phi Sigma: Student Leadership

Alpha Phi Sigma is an international honours society that promotes academic excellence, community service, leadership, and social justice, and offers a wide program of activities to its members over the academic year. The Phi Epsilon Chapter at the University of Guelph-Humber is one of only two APS chapters in Canada.

Pre-Law Society Preparing Students for Law School

Guelph-Humber Pre-Law Society (GHPLS) prepares students for law school and legal careers. GHPLS supports student participation and travel to mooting competitions at universities across Ontario along with internal training activities and networking events with alumni and legal professionals. GHPLS also hosts the annual GH Cup at the university campus.

A.B.L.E: Largest Career Fair in Ontario

The A.B.L.E. Career Fair at the University of Guelph-Humber is one of Ontario’s largest law enforcement and emergency services recruitment events, connecting students with employers through a long-standing partnership between the university and the Association of Black Law Enforcers (A.B.L.E.) over the last two decades.

Community Engaged Research

Justice Studies and Psychology students gained hands-on research experience through an initiative with EFry - Hope Help for Women and presented their findings at the CPTED Canada Conference in April 2026. The project explored the barriers facing women after incarceration, developed evidence-based recommendations, and advanced findings to inform real-world practice.

Toronto Police Service Career & Outreach Event

Justice Studies is where network connections can be developed, and students can explore career pathways, including through the University’s connection to partners such as the Toronto Police Service (TPS). Through this partnership, the Toronto Police Service Community Recruitment Fair was held on campus in March 2026.

Intercollegiate CSI Competition

A group of nine Justice Studies students competed at the Intercollegiate CSI Challenge held at the Humber campus in February 2025, where our students placed among the top three in the competition. At the 2026 March competition, two U of GH teams placed second and third among a field of twelve.

Guelph-Humber students come out on top in UK

U of GH students from various programs competed at a competition held at Ulster University’s Belfast campus in Northern Ireland and were recognized for their professionalism and legal skills.

Association of Black Law Enforcers Scholarship

Kamesha Wint, 2025 Recipient

Justice Studies student Kamesha Wint is a 2025 recipient of the Association of Black Law Enforcers (A.B.L.E.) scholarship. A.B.L.E. is a non-profit organization that works with Black and other racialized groups by addressing their needs and concerns in law enforcement and the community.

CANASA Scholarship

Alexia Velez, 2025 Recipient

Justice Studies student Alexia Velez is one of six recipients across Canada to receive a $2,500 scholarship from the Canadian Security Association (CANASA) – a testament to her commitment to the field, community involvement, leadership experience, and strong academics.

2025 Highland Cup Moot

Christabell Zalwango & Francesco Deleo, 1st Place

Both students showcased strong legal reasoning and advocacy abilities to come out on top. During a mooting competition, teams are given a court case where a ruling has already been made, and they must prepare arguments for both sides of the case.

Leadership in the Community

The DuoVida Foundation created by Justice Studies alumni Priya Puran and Tenisha Noel and Humber grad Isabella Iannone is committed to empowering young adults and opening doors to accessible professional opportunities. DuoVida champions representation for Black and Caribbean youth, and marginalized communities.
