Country Specific Admission Requirements

If you are applying to the University of Guelph-Humber from another country, in most cases, you'll need to meet admission requirements similar to those necessary to register in an accredited university in your locale. These requirements include:

High school country-specific requirements

Afghanistan

Baccalauria, with a minimum B in all subjects.

Argentina

Bachillerato with a minimum of 8.

Australia

High School Certificate (HSC) with corresponding ATAR score.

Austria

Reifezeugnis (Matura).

Azerbaijan

Attestat- Certificate of (Completed) Secondary Education with a minimum combination of 4 and 5.

Bahamas

12 years schooling, a combination of British GCSE examinations and SAT I and II subject tests/ Freshman Year College of the Bahamas; see also GCE and IB.

Bangladesh

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) with first division pass (60-100). (See also GCE and IB.).

Barbados

Bermuda

Bermuda Secondary School Certificate with excellent grades (see also IB, GCE and American Patterned Education).

Botswana

Brazil

Brazil Certificado de Conclusao de Ensino Medio (minimum 7.5) + Vestibular (University Entrance Exam) or ENEM (Middle Education National Examination) or SAT I and SATII subject tests.

Bulgaria

Diploma Za Zavarsheno Sredno Obrazovanie (School Leaving Diploma) with grades of 5 or better.

Burkina Faso

Cameroon

Caribbean

Students must complete the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Diploma with a minimum of 6 individual subjects with at least two 2-Unit courses at the CAPE Level. Other subjects may be presented at the CSEC (CXC) Level. Predicted CAPE Level grades of 1 or 2 are required for admission consideration. Students going into Science or Engineering are encouraged to take a minimum of two 2-Unit CAPE Level subjects in Science and/or Mathematics.

Transfer credit may be granted for 2-Unit courses at the Advanced Level with grades of 1, 2, or 3. Please note that Caribbean Studies and Communications Studies can not be used for admission.

Chile

Licencia de Educacion Media and the Prueba de Aptitud Academica (PAA).

China

1. Students progressing through Upper Middle School: the Academic Proficiency Test (APT)/HuiKao from CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service with a minimum of 5 relevant required subjects for the degree and major, along with school documents for grades 10, 11, and first semester Grade 12 are required. Final official Upper Middle School Graduation Certificate will be required in August from the CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service.

2. Students who finished high school in a previous year are required to submit the Upper Middle School Graduation Certificate and the Chinese National University Entrance Examinations (NCEE) including a minimum of 5 relevant required subjects. All documents and English translations must be sent directly to Admission Services through CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service. In the absence of NCEE, SAT I and SAT II subject tests including all required subjects specific to your degree and major may be submitted for admission consideration.

Colombia

Excellent Bachillerato results (9/10). Bachillerato en Ciencias academically focused on sciences and humanities.

Costa Rica

Bachillerato along with successful completion of first year at an accredited institution of higher learning is typically required.

Ecuador

Bachillerato with excellent results. (See also American Patterned Education and International Baccalaureate.)

Egypt

Thanaweya Amma - General Secondary Education Certificate or IB, American Patterned or French Baccalaureate with excellent results.

El Salvador

Bachiller Academico with a minimum approximately 8 out of 10.

Ethiopia

Ethiopian Higher Education Entrance Examination. Minimum for consideration begins at 78-80%.

European Baccalaureate

Completed European Baccalaureate Diploma including prerequisite required exam with a minimum overall average of 75-80%. English must be a minimum of L1 or L2. Students with English as L2 are expected to write an English Proficiency exam.

France

Baccalaureat/Baccalaureat General/ Diplome de Bachelier de l'Enseignement du Second Degre/Option Internationale du Baccalaureat with good results overall and in required subjects.

Germany

Reifezeugnis / Abitur / Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife.

Ghana

West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exam results, with a minimum B3 on predicted grades and a scratch card for confirmation required for finals.

Greece

Apolytirio Eniaiou Lykeiou, with a minimum of 16.1.

Guatemala

First year completed at a recognized university.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) with a combination of 4 and 5. Predicted school marks must be presented on a 5 point scale.

India

Completion of a Class 12 State Board Certificate in the required academic stream with strong First Division standing.

For early admission decisions, students may submit verified 10th standard board results accompanied by anticipated Class 12 grades listed by subject from the school. Completion of Class 12 Board Exam Certificate with strong First Division standing is required in May/June. All information required by the board to verify your Class 10 and 12 certificates. Final Indian curriculum graduating documents must be submitted to Admission Services from the corresponding board. When possible, Admission Services will verify scanned finals online that can be emailed to admissions@guelphumber.ca

Indonesia

Surat Tanda Tamat Belajar Sekolah Menengah Umum Tingkat Atas (STTB SMA) or Certificate of Completion of Upper Secondary School with good/very good marks + EBTANAS.

Iran

Diploma Metevaseth/National High School Diploma (after 12 years) or Pre-university year + Diploma Metevaseth with a minimum of 16.

Iraq

Sixth Form Baccalaureat, with a minimum 8.

Ireland

Ardteistimeireacht (Irish Leaving Certificate - ILC).

Italy

Diploma of Completed Secondary Education with a minimum combination of 4 and 5.

Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with grades of A and B.

Korea (South)

Immumgye Kodung Hakkyo Choeupchang (Academic Upper Secondary School Certificate) + College Scholastic Ability Test.

Bachillerato with very good / excellent results in required subjects.

Middle East

Applicants from Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen must present the National Secondary School Education/Leaving Certificate (Tawjihiyah) with very good/excellent results overall and in appropriate subjects.

Students from Kuwait should present the Shahad-al-thanawia-al-a-a'ama (General Secondary School Certificate) with excellent results and those from UAE, the Secondary School Certificate (Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-Amma). See UAE for more details. Documents must be official and come from the school, Ministry or the appropriate Cultural Bureau.

New Zealand

Minimum Admission Requirements: National Certificate of Educational Achievement Level 3 and University Entrance Standard inclusive of approved subjects. Grades required for admission will vary by program, but based on the New Zealand grading scale, the minimum level for admission consideration is “Merit.”

Nigeria

Vitnemal Fra den Videregaende Skole/Certificate of Secondary Education.

Pakistan

Intermediate and Higher Secondary School Certificate with strong excellent to outstanding grades.

Panama

Peru

Successful completion of one year of post-secondary studies at a recognized university and a Certificado de Educacion Secundaria Comun Completa.

Philippines

High School Diploma. Candidates must graduate from a 12 year high school education system. Students graduating from the former 11 year system are required to submit one year of post-secondary studies.

Poland

Świadectwo Dojrzałości Liceum Ogólnokształcącego with a minimum average of approximately 4.5 out of 6 to start admission consideration.

Portugal

Certificado de fim de Estudos Secundários within the good (bom) category with scores of 16-15/20.

Russia

Attestat o Srednam (Polnom) Obshchem Obrazovani - Certificate of (Completed) Secondary Education with good grades.

Singapore

Singapore/Cambridge GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level Examinations (see GCE requirements).

South Africa

National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum high Meritorious to Outstanding for admission consideration.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan Certificate of Education including Ordinary Levels and at least 3 Advanced Level subjects with a minimum B average.

Sweden

Fullstandigt Slutbetyg from Gymnasieskolan.

Switzerland

Federal School Leaving Certificate – Maturité/Maturität/Maturità with a minimum 5/6 or 8/10.

Taiwan

Senior High School Certificate of Graduation + Joint College Entrance Exam.

Tanzania

Certificate of Secondary Education and Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education.

Thailand

First-year standing in a recognized university is normally required, however, applicants holding the Mattayom 6 with superior academic standing (3.0 to 4.0 in all required core courses) may be considered.

Trinidad

Turkey

Lise Diploması with very good/ excellent results. Submission of a school profile is expected.

UAE

Secondary School Certificate (Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-Amma) with a minimum B+ overall and in required subjects. (See also: British Patterned Education (GCE), India (above), American Patterned Education, Canadian Curriculum, and International Baccalaureate.)

Uganda

Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. Five academic subjects: English, with at least 3 academic A Levels of a minimum B to begin admission consideration. (See also: British Patterned Education (GCE))

Venezuela

Successful completion of the first year at an accredited institution of higher learning is typically required along with the Bachillerato. (See also: IB and American Patterned Education

Vietnam

Bang Tot Nghiep Pho Thong Trung Hoc(Upper Secondary School Graduation Certificate) with a minimum of 8.

Zambia

Successful completion of the first year at an accredited institution of higher learning is typically required. Applicants with excellent results in the Zambian School Certificate (3+).

Zimbabwe

General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (ZGCE O-Level) and Zimbabwe General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (ZGCE A-Level) with a minimum B to begin admission consideration. (See also: British Patterned Education (GCE))

International Certifications

Advanced Placement (AP)

If you have completed Advanced Placement Final Examinations with a minimum grade of 4, you will be eligible to receive university specific transfer credits, where applicable, to a maximum of 2.00 credits. You may request a change to unspecified credit on an individual basis within the first 30 days of your first semester.

Please arrange for an official score report to be sent directly to Admission Services. Transfer credit will be assigned once this has been received in Admission Services.

American Curriculum

You must have a minimum cumulative unweighted grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 out of 4.0 from a regionally accredited high school to begin consideration.

In addition, if your school is inside the US, you must submit SAT with a minimum of 1100 or a minimum ACT score of 24. GPA, SAT and ACT scores will vary by degree and major and will affect scholarship eligibility. Senior level courses should include specific subjects that are required for admission to your degree program and major of choice. Your school profile with grading scale should be included with documents, and all sent through Parchment/Naviance/Docufide whenever possible, or emailed directly by the school to admissions@guelphhumber.ca.

Possessing the minimum requirement does not guarantee admission.

Students should ensure that senior year final grades from first semester and second semester interim grades, along with grades 9-11, are submitted by the March 1 document deadline date. While we may continue to accept applications and documents after the deadline, we cannot guarantee availability of space in programs or scholarships. Offers of admission will be made on a rolling basis as files become complete whenever possible.

Out-of-Country Canadians in U.S. high schools are evaluated for admission and scholarships using both the U.S. GPA and the SAT or ACT, not percentages nor GPA alone.

British Patterned Education (GCE)

General Certificate of Education Requirements (GCE):

  • Minimum of two Advanced Level passes and three GCSE or IGCSE (Ordinary Level) passes.
  • Two Advanced Supplementary subsidiary (AS) Level courses may be substituted for one Advanced Level Course.

You are expected to present a minimum 'A/B' or 6/7 grade on GCSE/IGCSE, AS and predicted Advanced Level examinations with a minimum of 5 unique subject areas. While consideration will be given to subject prerequisites at the GCSE/IGCSE Level, you are encouraged to present requirements at the AS or Advanced Level. Please note that general paper is not considered an acceptable subject.

Note: In one academic year students generally complete 5.0 credits.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

If you are applying with an IB Diploma from outside Canada, you should present a minimum score of 24. Reported bonus points from TOK and EE will be taken into consideration.

Having the minimum score does not guarantee admission.

You should complete the Diploma with six subjects: 3 Higher Level and 3 Standard Level. You should also include specific subject requirements for the program you are applying to among your Standard and Higher Level courses. If you are currently completing the IB Diploma, you will be considered for admission consideration based upon predicted IB scores. You should ensure that your anticipated scores are submitted using the 7 point scale.

Upon receipt of official final results from the IBO, we will assign specific transfer credits, where applicable, to a maximum of 2.0 credits for grades of 5 or better on Higher Level courses where you have been awarded the IB Diploma or DP Course.

Note: Students who do not complete the full IB Diploma must meet admission standards from an accredited high school graduating curriculum.

French Baccalaureate same page

Students applying with a French Baccalaureate should present a minimum overall score of 12 out of 20. Specific subject prerequisites should be completed at the highest co-efficient level.

Having the minimum score does not guarantee admission.

General Academic Requirements

  • Upper Middle School Graduation Certificate
  • Academic Proficiency Test examination results (Huikao) with a minimum of 80/100 including required subjects.
  • NCEE (Gaokao) results including required subjects with a minimum of approximately 550 (in the absence of NCEE students may submit SAT and SATII results. See below for information).
  • Both Gaokao and Huikao results must be verified by the China Higher Education Student Information & Career Center (CHESICC) using the CHESICC-Parchment Portal Service. Visit the CHESICC website for instructions.

SAT I and SAT II Subject Tests

For students who graduated in previous years without an NCEE you may substitute this by using a combination of SAT and SATII Subject Test, SAT Critical Reading and Math with a combined minimum of 1100 and SAT II Subject tests with an approximate minimum of 550 per subject. The specific SAT II Subject Tests required depend upon the intended field of study:

  • Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Kinesiology: Math (level 2), Biology (either E or M) and Chemistry
  • Honours Bachelor of Applied Arts/Honours Bachelor of Applied Science: Literature, and two additional humanities or social science type courses (e.g. World History, French, etc.)
  • Honours Bachelor of Business Administration: Math (level 2) plus two additional SAT's.
