First Year Experience (FYE)

Make the most of your first year at the University of Guelph-Humber!

First-Year Experience logo

The First Year Experience (FYE) program eases your transition into university! You’ll connect online with a small group of your peers in your academic program throughout the summer and your first year at UofGH. This group is led by an FYE Leader, a current student in your program, who will welcome you, provide you with important information like what to expect in classes, connect you with other students in your program, and answer any questions you have.

FYE Groups

As a new UofGH student, you’re automatically enrolled in the FYE program. Check your Gryph Mail for emails from Student Life that contain an invitation to your FYE group on Microsoft Teams, then follow these step-by-step instructions to join your group. Once you log in, you’ll see your FYE group listed under Teams, with the name of your FYE Leader in the title.

Contact Student Life at if you have trouble accessing your FYE group.

Kick Off with FYE Sessions

Wondering how to make friends now that everything is virtual? Or how to balance working and learning at home? What about staying healthy in first year? The FYE Leaders will answer all of your questions at our Kick Off with FYE sessions throughout Fall 2020.

The first session will focus on something we could all use some help with: creating a productive & healthy routine from home. Mark your calendars for the week of September 21-25 when we host this session, and be on the lookout for an email from Student Life with dates, times, and Teams links to tune in!

During Orientation Week (August 31 to September 4), your FYE Leader hosted an FYE Social where you could connect with your classmates, ask questions to a current student in your program, and play games. Your Leader will host more of these – in the meantime, reach out to them on Microsoft Teams!

Kick Start

As part of the FYE program, we hosted Kick Start in July and August 2020, a series of live webinars designed to support your transition from secondary to post-secondary education. There were sessions for your parents and supporters too!
