First Year Experience (FYE)

Make the most of your first year at the University of Guelph-Humber!

First-Year Experience logo

The First Year Experience (FYE) program eases your transition into university! You’ll connect online with a small group of your peers in your academic program throughout the summer and your first year at UofGH. This group is led by an FYE Leader, a current student in your program, who will welcome you, provide you with important information like what to expect in classes, connect you with other students in your program, and answer any questions you have.

Note: The information below applies to students that started in Fall 2020. New students beginning their studies in Fall 2021 will receive email communication about the 2021-22 FYE program. We look forward to welcoming you to the University!

FYE Groups

As a new UofGH student, you’re automatically enrolled in the FYE program. Check your Gryph Mail for emails from Student Life that contain an invitation to your FYE group on Microsoft Teams, then follow these step-by-step instructions to join your group. Once you log in, you’ll see your FYE group listed under Teams, with the name of your FYE Leader in the title.

Contact Student Life at life@guelphhumber.ca if you have trouble accessing your FYE group.

FYE Sessions

Meet other new students and get all your questions answered at FYE Sessions. Wondering how to get more involved? How to balance working and learning from home? What about staying healthy as you finish your first year at UofGH? We’ve got you covered.

Here are the session topics for Winter 2021:

  • Week of January 18-22: Winter Wellness
  • Week of January 25-29: Stress Management & Test Preparation – led by the Learning Support Peers
  • Week of February 1-5: Creating Inclusive Online Environments – led by the Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity
  • Week of February 8-12: Financial Wellness
  • Week of March 8-12: START & FYE Info Session + Resume Workshop – co-led by Career Support Peers

New students will receive an email every weekend with a registration link to that week’s sessions. The times and dates will change weekly to accommodate for varying schedules.

See you there!

Orientation Week 2020

During Orientation Week (August 31 to September 4), your FYE Leader hosted an FYE Social where you could connect with your classmates, ask questions to a current student in your program, and play games. Your Leader will host more of these – in the meantime, reach out to them on Microsoft Teams!

Kick Start

As part of the FYE program, we hosted Kick Start in July and August 2020, a series of live webinars designed to support your transition from secondary to post-secondary education. There were sessions for your parents and supporters too!

Check out the Kick Start webinar recordings.
