Remembrance Day 2025: Guelph-Humber takes time to reflect

On Remembrance Day, Indigenous Veteran’s Day, and throughout November, the University of Guelph-Humber (U of GH) recognizes and remembers the sacrifices of the veterans, Indigenous servicemen and women, civilian volunteers, and all who contributed to the war efforts including those who lost their lives while serving, as they fought to defend peace and freedom in Canada and around the world.

The University of Guelph-Humber honours the courage and sacrifices of those who served in the pursuit of peace. This Remembrance Day, I encourage the U of GH community to take time to reflect on the significance of this day. Whether you’ve lost a loved one because of a war or are learning about the painful chapters of war throughout history in class, this day touches every person in Canada in some way,” Vice-Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Guelph-Humber, Dr. Melanie Spence-Ariemma, said.

We encourage further learning about this history, including the country’s contributions during the World Wars, Indigenous peoples and war, and more. The Humber and University of Guelph-Humber Library’s “In Remembrance” collection offers a curated list of reading to enhance learning about why we remember.

This year, Guelph-Humber is hosting its annual Postcards for Peace initiative in the atrium until Nov. 11. Students and staff are welcomed to write a meaningful message to a veteran, which will later be delivered to a local Legion. Read last year’s Postcards for Peace story to learn more about the impact Guelph-Humber students had on the community.

Plus, we invite you to join our Remembrance Day service on Nov. 11 at 10:50 a.m. in Humber’s E-Concourse. If you cannot attend in person, the event will be streamed here

Furthermore, longtime Guelph-Humber instructor Dr. Gregory Klages interviewed Alex Graham, a 103-year-old Canadian Air Force veteran, who served in Belgium during 1945. He is currently Peel Region's oldest veteran. Watch Dr. Klages interview Mr. Graham, as he reflects on his life and on his service.

Lest we forget.
