Earn 2 credentials

  • Honours Bachelor of Applied Arts in Media & Communication Studies
  • Diploma in Media Communications

Your degree is granted by the University of Guelph and diploma by Humber Polytechnic. You must complete all four years of study to receive both credentials.

Specializations

Digital Marketing & Social Media
  • Learn the fundamental principles of marketing with the evolving study of social media and its relationship to consumer behaviour
  • Focus on search engine optimization techniques and social media analytics
Media Business & Management
  • Learn about organizational behaviour, consumer behaviour and leadership
  • Study the skills required to manage a media enterprise, such as data management and analytics, advertising and team-building
Visual Communication
  • Photography (studio lighting, location photography)
  • Digital graphic design (still and motion graphics, marketing and editorial layouts and production design)
  • Videography (storyboarding, and shooting and editing)

Storytelling

You will design compelling digital experiences, build strategic campaigns and manage content across platforms — from video and social media to branded storytelling and immersive multimedia.

Plus, you can access media and communications technology and equipment, including cameras, professional studio lighting, microphones and recorders at the Technology Resource Centre.

Capstone project (Emerge)

You’ll work with organizations and community partners on cutting-edge projects, culminating in your fourth-year project, Emerge. 

Through Emerge, students have partnered with Sunshine Therapy Dogs, Humber River Health Foundation, Earth Rangers and Youth Employment Services (just to name a few).

You may choose to complete and present an undergraduate thesis (after year three), instead of Emerge, to apply research principles, build your presentation skills and prepare for graduate studies.
