Description of Student Fees

Compulsory Ancillary Fees

Alumni
Alumni and Advancement keeps the University of Guelph-Humber community strong and connected.  University of Guelph-Humber alumni can access perks, benefits and discounts in a wide range of service areas including insurance and travel.

The Alumni fee supports communication and networking opportunities for alumni. The Alumni office secures benefits and services for alumni including discounted travel, theatre, sports and attraction tickets. This fee also supports Guelph Humber graduates helping Guelph Humber graduates through industry and graduate networking opportunities.

Athletics and Recreation
The Athletic Operating fee supports the operational cost of athletic programs, equipment and services, and provides athletic and recreational services to students, including intramural, extramural, varsity, fitness and casual recreation opportunities. Additionally, the fee supports the maintenance, enhancement and acquisition of athletic equipment.

Career Services
Career Services supports students in career exploration and employment preparation by providing resources such as a job and placement web portal, resume review/tutoring, interview preparation, job search strategies, career fairs and networking events.

IGNITE

Funds career-related events and speaker series to educate and inform students on topics related to future success, relationship building and career development.

Student Buildings
The Student Building fee supports new construction and/or improvements to the existing physical infrastructure for non-academic spaces/buildings and informal learning spaces.

Humber Athletics

Supports new construction and/or improvements to the existing physical infrastructure for Athletics and recreation facilities.

IGNITE

Supports new construction, ongoing maintenance and renovations of current spaces that host student activities and services.

IGNITE - Membership Fee
Funds reliable support and access to services and initiatives as well as spaces where possible in accordance with public health and safety guidelines.

IGNITE - Advocacy & Governance
This fee contributes to the training of elected student leaders that represent and advocate for the Humber and University of Guelph-Humber student body when it comes to institutional and government decisions that impact students.

IGNITE - Wellness & Security 
Supports programming to educate students on how they can improve their life through resources and initiatives that address both physical and mental health and safety.

Health and Counselling
The Health Centre fee supports student health, well-being and academic success by facilitating on-campus access to health and wellness professionals. Specifically, this fee helps off-set the cost of operating Health Services, which include health education, mental health support, addiction and cessation programming, and access to nurses, psychologists, and mental health nurses.

IGNITE

Provides access to healthy lifestyle essentials such as a pay-what-you-can soup bar and menstrual kits. In addition, the fee supports a wellness speaker series to educate students on how they can improve their life through resources and initiatives that address both physical and mental health.

Academic Support
The Academic Support fee provides programs that support both a successful academic start and continued academic success. Programs supported by this fee include online and in-person orientation, year-long transition support, Math and Writing Centres, online and in-person research support, and peer tutoring opportunities.

IGNITE

Supports an on-campus resolution clinic that guides students on ways to address and dissolve academic conflict.  In addition, the clinic educates and helps students resolve personal conflict that may be impacting their academic experience.

This fee also funds the publication of the student handbook that outlines academic resources, non-academic resources, and codes of conduct for students on campus.

Information Technology
The Student Information Technology fee supports the development of enhancements to technology services outside of the classroom for students. These services include the creation and operation of open access computer labs, wireless network across all campuses, enhanced internet performance, access to Microsoft software, mobile application support for WebAdvisor and GryphMail.

Student ID Cards
The Student ID Card fee is used to generate and maintain student ID cards required by students to access services on campus. In addition, these cards may be used to verify identification for exams or other testing. 

Student Achievement and Records
The Student Achievement and Records fee supports the costs for the planning and implementation of convocation ceremonies. Costs covered by this fee include regalia, venue, equipment and furniture rentals, food, staffing and security.

This fee gives students unlimited access to their official transcript.

Campus Safety
The Campus Safety fee gives students access to programming that promotes the safety, security and well-being of all students. Services and program delivery include the campus walk program, Humber’s Guardian safety application, sexual violence prevention and awareness programming, consent awareness, conflict resolution, and emergency communications management to ensure the safety and security of students, employees and visitors.
