Earn 2 Credentials

Your degree is granted by the University of Guelph and diploma by Humber Polytechnic. You must complete all required courses to receive the credentials.

Partner theory with practice

  • Build a scientific foundation that can lead to work with healthy populations, elite athletes, individuals with chronic diseases and people with physical challenges
  • Learn about the human body structure and function, performance, clinical applications of exercise and nutrition theory, and health and fitness assessment
  • Study health, injuries and illness
  • Couple lectures with labs, where you put theory into practice
  • Use state-of-the-art lab equipment, e.g., 3D motion capture system and body fat analysis (Bod Pod)

More than half of your courses have a lab component. There are less than 25 students per lab.

To learn anatomy, you will attend a human cadaver lab at the University of Guelph. A U of GH bus takes students to and from class.

Transfer Credit

If you have any postsecondary education and you wish to apply to the University of Guelph-Humber, then you are a Transfer Applicant.

College block credit transfer pathways

Our college block credit transfer pathways allow you to move seamlessly with your college diploma into our honours degree program. 

Start in May

If you are in your final year or have a completed diploma in one of the following two-year recognized Ontario college diplomas, with a minimum cumulative average of 75%, then you are eligible to receive transfer credit that includes 5.5 transfer credits (equivalent to approximately one year of study) + 2 non-credit practicum courses.

Diplomas:

  • Fitness & Health Promotion
  • Health, Wellness & Fitness

Schedule: You will complete six courses (May through August), then complete two fall/winter terms.

Start in September

If you have completed or are in your final year of an Occupational Therapy Assistant & Physiotherapist Assistant diploma with a minimum cumulative average of 75%, then you are eligible to receive transfer credit that includes 4.0 transfer credits (equivalent to approximately one year of study) + 2 non-credit practicum courses.

You must have a completed 4U math (or a college/university equivalent) to meet admission requirements.

Schedule: You will complete three fall/winter terms.

You must have one of the eligible diplomas to be considered for admission to the program. There are no general transfer pathways available.

Work Experience

Complete 88 hours of work placement. You have the option to complete an additional 154 hours at a second placement in your final year or choose to complete a two-semester research thesis project in a lab setting.

Placement 1 (required)
  • 88 hours
  • On-campus (11 hours) component where you will work one-on-one with a client to help reach their fitness and health goals once a week for 11 weeks
  • Off-site (77 hours) component where you will work with a business or organization offering applied experience once a week for 11 weeks
Placement 2 (optional)
  • 154 hours
  • Twice a week for 11 weeks, off campus

Note: You will be required to complete a First Aid/CPR certificate and may be required to complete a VSS and documentation of immunization prior to placement.

Science Rendezvous

This free, interactive, annual event takes place across Canada. Get involved in various Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) activities with children, youth and adults. Showcase your creative and innovative mind while encouraging the curiosity of others. Engage community members in partnership with University of Guelph-Humber faculty, community partners and peers across all programs, and enhance your resumé.
