Earn 2 credentials
- Honours Bachelor of Applied Arts in Media & Communication Studies
- Diploma in Media Communications
Your degree is granted by the University of Guelph and diploma by Humber Polytechnic. You must complete all required courses to receive the credentials.

Storytelling
You will design compelling digital experiences, build strategic campaigns and manage content across platforms — from video and social media to branded storytelling and immersive multimedia.
Access the following spaces on campus to develop your creative content:
- Content Editing Suites
- Multi-Production Broadcast Studio
- Photography Studio
- Podcast Recording Studio
- Virtual Reality Studio
Plus, you can access media and communications technology and equipment, including cameras, professional studio lighting, microphones and recorders at the Technology Resource Centre.
If you have any postsecondary education and you wish to apply to the University of Guelph-Humber, then you are a Transfer Applicant. Our college block credit transfer pathways and general transfer pathways demonstrate the transfer credit available to you.
College block credit transfer pathways
Our college block credit transfer pathways allow you to move seamlessly with your college diploma into our honours program. If you are in your final year of diploma completion, or have a completed diploma, in one of the following recognized Ontario college two- or three-year diplomas (or equivalent), with a minimum cumulative average of low to mid-70s, you are eligible to receive block transfer credit.

- Journalism
- Media Communications
- Photography
- Public Relations
Block credit
Receive up to 5 credits (equivalent to approximately one year of study) for a two-year diploma.
Receive up to 10 to 12 credits (equivalent to approximately two years of study) for a three-year diploma.
Note
Any two-year media- or communications-related diploma may receive up to 5.0 transfer credits (equivalent to approximately one year of study).
Any three-year media- or communications-related diploma may receive up to 10 to 12 credits (equivalent to approximately two years of study).
General transfer pathways
If you have postsecondary education and are not eligible for a college block credit transfer pathway, we will evaluate your transfer credit based on your education history once you apply.
Coming from a diploma program: If you have completed coursework or a diploma from a college diploma program, you must have a minimum cumulative average of low to mid-70s to be considered for admission.
Coming from a degree program: If you have completed a degree or degree-related coursework from a recognized college or university program, you must have a minimum cumulative average of 65% to be considered for admission.

Digital Marketing & Social Media
- Learn the fundamental principles of marketing with the evolving study of social media and its relationship to consumer behaviour
- Focus on search engine optimization techniques and social media analytics
Media Business & Management
- Learn about organizational behaviour, consumer behaviour and leadership
- Study the skills required to manage a media enterprise, such as data management and analytics, advertising and team-building
Visual Communication
- Photography (studio lighting, location photography)
- Digital graphic design (still and motion graphics, marketing and editorial layouts and production design)
- Videography (storyboarding, and shooting and editing)

Capstone project (Emerge)
Work with organizations and community partners on cutting-edge projects as part of Emerge.
Through Emerge, students have partnered with Sunshine Therapy Dogs, Humber River Health Foundation, Earth Rangers and Youth Employment Services (just to name a few).

You may choose to complete and present an undergraduate thesis, instead of Emerge, to apply research principles, build your presentation skills and prepare for graduate studies.
