Dr. George Bragues has been the Assistant Vice-Provost and Program Head of Business at the University of Guelph-Humber (UofGH) since 2005. His writings have spanned the disciplines of business, economics, politics, and philosophy. Dr. Bragues has published op-ed pieces in Canada’s Financial Post and a wide variety of scholarly articles and reviews in journals such as The Journal of Business Ethics, Qualitative Research in Financial Markets, The Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics, The Independent Review, History of Philosophy Quarterly, Episteme, and Business Ethics Quarterly. His books include Money, Markets, and Democracy: Politically Skewed Financial Markets and How to Fix Them (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016) as well as Cooperation and Excellence: A Pre-Modern Case for Capitalism (Lexington Books, 2017).
Justin Medak

Justin Medak began teaching at the University of Guelph-Humber in January 2012. In April 2013, he became the Assistant Program Head of Business, providing administrative and academic guidance within the program. Medak’s responsibilities include supporting Admissions, Student Life and Career Services, sitting on various committees, managing external relationships as well as guiding a number of student clubs and societies.
During the 2015/2016 academic year, Medak received the Faculty/Staff Mentoring Award. The award was established as a way for graduating students to recognize faculty/staff for their mentorship and support of undergraduate students. Medak prepares students to compete in undergraduate business case competitions. Teams that Medak coached have all represented the University externally and won top prizes. They include: placing second in 2014 at the Wharton Undergraduate Consulting Competition; winning the 3rd spot in 2016 at the Harvard International Consulting Case competition; a 3rd place in 2016 at the Dalhousie Ethics in Action; First prize in 2016 at the University of Vermont Family Enterprise Case Competition and first prize in 2017 at the Collaboration Challenge.

Dr. Farkhanda Shamim has taught at the University of Guelph-Humber since Fall 2019. She currently serves the institution in the capacity of Assistant Program Head of Business. Dr. Shamim possesses a wealth of academic and research experience and her academic career spans for more than 20 years, during which she has worked in various institutions around the globe including the University of Toronto, Japan’s Kobe University and Nagoya University, Int’l Islamic University in Islamabad, University of Bahrain and Ryerson University. Dr. Shamim has authored several research articles, which are published in high impact journals such as the Journal of Economic Studies. She is also a winner of many research grants and scholarships. Dr. Shamim was invited to a dialogue with the President of Nagoya University, Seiichi Matsuo at which they named her the Ambassador of alma mater, GSID. She is also awarded three shields at the University of Bahrain for her active involvement in the college administration.

Wim Vanhaverbeke is a professor of Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Surrey Business School. He is also visiting professor at ESADE Business School (Spain) and till recently at the National university of Singapore. He is Co-editor-in-Chief of Technovation since January 2020. He has published in several international journals such as Organization Science, Research Policy, California Management Review, Journal of Management Studies, Small Business Economics, Journal of Business Venturing, Technovation. He was co-editor with Henry Chesbrough and Joel West of “Open Innovation: Researching a New Paradigm” (OUP, 2006) and “New frontiers in open innovation” (OUP, 2014). He published a management book “Managing open innovation in SMEs” (CUP – 2017) and an academic volume “Researching open innovation in SMEs” (World Scientific Press - 2018). He is a dedicated open innovation researcher collaborating with different partners in universities and companies around the globe. His current research is focusing on open innovation in SMEs, and innovation ecosystems. He has established the European Innovation Forum with Henry Chesbrough in 2012 and is a co-organizer of the World Open Innovation Conference. He is a frequently asked speaker at leading international conferences and an adviser for several globally operating companies. He consults and organizes workshops for multinationals and technology companies. He was recognized by the International Association of Management of Technology (IAMOT) as one of the top 50 authors of technology and innovation management during the period of 2008-2012. He is appointed as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Research Center for Technological Innovation of the Tsinghua University.

The Diversity Institute has 75 research staff, 100 research associates from around the world and 200 industry partners focused on dimensions of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, future skills, and entrepreneurship and innovation. Projects include Diversity Leads, which has tracked the representation of women in leadership roles and a host of projects focused specifically on women in technology. The Diversity Institute has also pioneered innovative projects such as the Advanced Digital and Professional Training program (ADaPT), the Women Entrepreneurship Hub and the Newcomer Entrepreneurship Hub. She also leads the Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub and a program of research for the Future Skills Centre as well as the new Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship Network (IIE-Net). She serves on a host of non-profit boards including Women's College Hospital, nPower, the Lifelong Leadership Institute, Green Iglu and many advisory committees. Her awards include Sara Kirke Award; YWCA Woman of Distinction; Woman of Influence; Harry Jerome Diversity Award; the Bob Marley Diversity Award, Canada Pakistan Business Council’s Professional of the Year; Metropolis Research Award, most powerful women by WXN. Paul Jones is Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Head of the Business Department at the School of Management, Swansea University, UK. Professor Jones is Editor-in-Chief on the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research journal and as an Associate Editor on the International Journal of Management Education. He is also series editor of the Contemporary Issues in Entrepreneurship Research Entrepreneurial book series published by Emerald Publishing. During his career, to date he has guest edited 20 special issues/sections in academic journals including Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development, Information Technology and People, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Strategic Change. Professor Jones is a prolific entrepreneurial researcher and has authored over 100 refereed journal papers in journals such as the British Journal of Management, International Small Business Journal, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development and Journal of Small Business Management. In addition, he has authored 12 edited books and over 30 book chapters and sections with 350 plus research outputs in total in his career to date. His research predominantly explores entrepreneurial behaviour and small business management.

Dr. Howard Lin received an MA in economics from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing and a PhD in marketing/international business from Oklahoma State University. He was a faculty member of Pennsylvania State University’s School of Graduate Professional Studies and University of Windsor. Howard has published his research on international business in scholarly journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Management International Review, Journal of World Business, Journal of International Marketing, and International Marketing Review. A 2006 report by Michigan State University has ranked him among the top 90 most prolific scholars in IB research based on the cumulative publication counts in five leading international business journals. He has studied immigrant entrepreneurship in relation to the international dynamic due to growing immigrant populations in Canada from the Pacific-Rim countries. Lin was the founder of the Centre for the Study of Canada-Asia Business at Odette School of Business, University of Windsor, an economist in the International Business Department with the Bank of China, and director of international business assistance at the Center for International Trade Development, a regional hub for international business affiliated with U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was former chair of the Academy of International Business Canada Chapter and currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Small Business & Entrepreneurship.

Prince dove into entrepreneurship at the age of 20 when he was the lead of operations for a successful manufacturing startup located out of Milton from 2012-2014. Since finishing his undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph-Humber in 2015 Prince has devoted himself to helping small businesses achieve success through his guidance and mentorship. He joined the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre in 2015 as a Small Business Services Representative and then transitioned to his current role as a Business Consultant in 2020 with the Halton Region. Prince understands the fundamentals around what a good business venture should be able to achieve both from a start-up and expansion perspective and educates his clients daily on how to navigate the unknown. He continues to pursue growth opportunities and will be starting his Masters of Economic Development and Innovation at the University of Waterloo in September 2021 where he will further expand his current knowledge and expertise in entrepreneurship and help grow the Halton Region business community as a whole.

In addition to her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business, Certificate in Human Resources, Suzanne has several coaching certifications including Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) which is the behaviour-based science of excellence and how to reproduce it.
Suzanne has always been fascinated with communication and human dynamics which is how she discovered NLP.

Nadine Spencer serves as president of the Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA), which was founded in 1983. The BBPA is a charitable organization whose mission is to advance Canada's Black community by addressing equity, and though the delivery of programs that support business and professional excellence, higher education, and economic development. She has been acknowledged in the publication 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women and has received numerous awards, including the BBPA Harry Jerome Business Award. A dedicated Black community champion, Ms. Spencer has devoted her life and work to fighting discrimination, battling poverty and advancing women’s education, including equality for women and girls of colour and other relevant topics related to the uplifting of society’s marginalized people. She holds a B.A. in political science with honours from York University and serves on the York Alumni Board. Ms. Spencer is the CEO of BrandEQ Group Inc., a global agency specializing in social change marketing, communications, and public relations. Spencer has accelerated strategic growth and brand visibility for a diverse client portfolio. She also pioneered BrandEQ Black, BrandEQ’s cultural sensitivity arm, whose goal is to work with organizations and governments to look at racial biases in advertising and marketing.

A successful entrepreneur and business executive, champion fundraiser, and dedicated public servant, Rocco Rossi joins the Ontario Chamber of Commerce in 2018 as President and CEO. Coming from his role as President and CEO of Prostate Cancer Canada and earlier as the CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation – one of Canada’s largest non-profit organizations – Rossi has overseen consecutive years of record fundraising combining for over $600 million in total and launching many new, life-saving initiatives. His passion for public policy has led him to stand for election both for the position of Mayor of Toronto and for MPP. Mr. Rossi has held senior positions at the Boston Consulting Group, TORSTAR, Labatt/Interbrew and MGI Software. He is a graduate of McGill and Princeton.
Rossi currently serves as a member of the Board and Audit Committee of TerraVest Industries. A past board member of United Way of Greater Toronto and other charities, Mr. Rossi has been an active community builder. In fact, in 2012 he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal for his Philanthropic and Community service. A dedicated adventurer, Rocco has walked the legendary Camino de Santiago several times, cycled the 1900 km length of Yonge Street from Rainy River to Toronto, kayaked the 500 km from Toronto to Ottawa, and climbed to Everest Base Camp.
