The 19th Annual Last Lecture event (held on March 19) was an evening filled with nostalgia, inspiration, and celebration as graduating students reflected on their remarkable journeys at the University of Guelph-Humber. Hosted by fourth-year Justice student, Ruth Oudit, the event featured meaningful (and hilarious!) video messages from Program Heads and Assistant Program Heads, an inspirational Media and Communication Studies alum speaker, Lauren Pires, and an uplifting address from fourth-year Justice student, Tenisha Noel.

Outstanding Mentorship Award

Award recipient, Aida Memisevic, with some of her graduating Business students

The Outstanding Mentorship Award was established as a way for graduating students to recognize a staff or faculty member for their outstanding guidance or support during their time as a University of Guelph-Humber student. Recipients are nominated by graduating students, with applications reviewed by a committee.

This year’s recipient is Aida Memisevic, an esteemed Business program instructor renowned for her IMPACT-focused media entrepreneurship, marketing expertise, advocacy for mindfulness, and engaging TEDx talks. Aida's dedication to mentorship has left a lasting impact on students, making her a deserving recipient of this award.

Michael Nightingale Community Enrichment Award

This annual award has been established to honour Michael Nightingale, who served as the first Vice-Provost and Chief Academic Officer at the University of Guelph-Humber from 2001 to 2005. Throughout his tenure, Michael’s vision and dedication were critical in shaping both the academic and co-curricular environments at the University of Guelph-Humber.

This award is presented to a graduating student who has made significant contributions to the University of Guelph-Humber community, beyond their own program of study, and shares Michael Nightingale’s commitment to enriching the student experience at the University. Recipients of this award are nominated by members of the GH community and selected by a committee.

This year’s recipient is Jasmine Bates, a standout student from the Media and Communication Studies program. Jasmine's remarkable contributions exemplify Michael Nightingale's commitment to enriching the student experience. From her leadership roles in organizations like Best Buddies GH and the GH Pre-Law Society, to her impactful involvement with the Student Transition and Resource Team, Jasmine has consistently shown a passion for fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus culture. Her dedication as a First Year Experience Leader, IGNITE Board of Directors member, and University of Guelph Student Senator further underscore her profound impact on the community. Jasmine Bates embodies the spirit of this award through her tireless efforts to enhance the University of Guelph-Humber experience for all.
