Finland & Estonia: The Culture of the Baltics

This course is centered around a study tour of one of the world's hidden gems: the Baltic countries of Finland and Estonia. An intriguing mix of Central and Eastern European, Russian, and Scandinavian civilizations, both nations have had an interesting, and sometimes tragic, history. Due to their geography, Finland and Estonia have been at the crossroads of many forms of commerce and culture, drawing on diverse influences while creating their own unique societies. In Finland, students will stay in the capital city of Helsinki, exploring its culture and history, In Estonia, the focus of the tour will be Tallinn, where students will explore the Old Town, a section of that city which was miraculously spared destruction during World War II and subsequent Soviet rule.
