Information for Faculty

Convocation 2024 will be held on Monday June 17, 2024 at the Toronto Congress Centre. Ceremony times will be available by the end of winter 2024.

Q: I am a faculty member at the University of Guelph-Humber. How can I participate in the Convocation ceremonies?

We invite faculty members to join us by participating in the Platform Party.

The Platform Party is comprised of senior administration, key representatives from the University of Guelph and Humber College ITAL, and faculty members. Platform Party members sit on stage during the ceremony.

Faculty members are encouraged to participate in the ceremony specific to the academic program in which they teach. Academic programs are assigned to specific ceremony times based on class size and venue capacity.

Q: What is the time commitment involved in participating in the Platform Party?

Program Heads and Assistant Program Heads should arrive ONE HOUR prior to the scheduled ceremony start time to participate in photos and other ceremonies.

Other faculty members should arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the schedule ceremony start time. Upon arrival at Pearson Convention Centre, faculty members can follow directional signage to check in at the Platform Party Room.

The ceremony itself will run for approximately 90 minutes. Each ceremony is followed by an Alumni Reception where faculty members have the opportunity to mingle with graduates and their guests.

Q: Will transportation be provided to the Pearson Convention Centre?

The University of Guelph-Humber does not provide transportation to or from the venue.

Q: What is the dress code?

All members of the Platform Party are required to wear academic regalia.

There will be black undergraduate gowns provided (in an assortment of sizes), as well as hoods from the University of Guelph-Humber, the University of Guelph, and Humber College ITAL.

If you own academic regalia from your alma mater, you are welcome to bring and wear that to the ceremony. We are unable to provide regalia from other Canadian or international institutions.

Q: Will I have an opportunity to see my students before or after the ceremony?

Following each ceremony, the University of Guelph-Humber hosts an Alumni Reception to welcome the newest alumni members, their family, friends, and guests.

This is a perfect time for faculty members to connect with their students to celebrate this special milestone!

Q: When can I register to be part of the Platform Party / Academic Procession?

We will be accepting registrations from faculty members, Program Heads, and Assistant Program Heads to participate in the Platform Party / Academic Procession in April 2024. In order to indicate your participation, a registration form will be emailed to you when registration opens.
