Welcome
While continuing to navigate changing situations over the past year, we have continued to work collaboratively with our industry partners, students were able to complete their placements/internships in-person, remotely or in a hybrid format; and some students even had the opportunity to participate in simulated placement experiences.
Despite the challenges we faced this year, our students successfully completed their program requirements and field hours thanks to you, our partners.
We are appreciative and thankful for your flexibility, creativity and commitment to student success. We look forward to our continued partnership into the 2022/2023 academic year.
Feel free to navigate through each tab to learn more about our programs, view videos from Program Heads, students and alumni attesting to the value of your partnerships and read testimonials from students and employers like yourself. Also visit the WORKING WITH US tab to learn about ways the University of Guelph-Humber can support your recruitment initiatives, and how you can further engage in students’ professional development activities.
On behalf of Career & Placement Services at the University of Guelph-Humber, we thank you and invite you to take a STANDING OVATION.

It is always an amazing opportunity to have students complete their internship with us at WestJet Airlines. They bring new ideas and suggestions to the daily operation. They offer our guests the best World Class Guest Experience that they deserve by assisting them to check in easily and offering support throughout the entire process.
The students leave the internship with experience working in a fast paced, time sensitive environment. They learn to work well as a team and under pressure.
I enjoyed working with the students and watching them grow in their new roles, taking on additional responsibilities to challenge themselves, handling stressful situations and guests, and most of all I enjoyed watching them work as a team with other students and the WestJet customer service and leadership team.
I would highly recommend students to other companies. It is great to have fresh eyes on the job at hand and listen to their suggestions and ideas on ways they see potential improvement.
I am always impressed with the level of professionalism the students have. It is amazing to watch them grow into the roles and excel at their daily assigned tasks. Donna Strathearn

This is my sixth year working with a University of Guelph-Humber student and each year since 2017, I have been fortunate to work with some very talented students from the Media and Business departments, who, in my opinion, have gained both knowledge and confidence to face the world of employment after graduation. By the same token, I have learned a great deal from my students who have introduced me to innovative marketing strategies and helped me with promoting my artwork and art exhibitions through their media and design skills. The relationship with my intern students has always been symbiotic and mutually beneficial.
As a visual artist and an educator for more than forty years, it is a real treat to work with such enthusiastic and competent students. My philosophy is to first find out what the student hopes to learn and achieve during the 240 hour internship; this is usually learned through the application process and the phone interview prior to hiring. Once a student is selected, I introduce him / her to my work by means of a studio visit where we formulate a plan of action which aims to give me and the student a clear vision of what we both want to accomplish; I always leave room for flexibility as that is advantageous for both of us. During the last two years, our meetings had to be relegated to phone and online discussions via zoom.
Students need exposure to the work world before they launch their career and the University of Guelph-Humber's employment experiential learning program gives the student an excellent advantage to transition from the world of formal learning into their new and exciting career path and profession. In an often face-paced and very unpredictable environment, our students are required to be flexible and prepared for pretty much anything. Our student had the opportunity to participate in learning across multiple programs, and moved through these seamlessly and with ease. It was a pleasure to have our student for the duration of the school year - they worked diligently on their skills and built up the confidence to take the lead in admission/assessment and case management settings with several of our clients. As a result of the always changing recommendation and regulation in our field, as a result of the ongoing pandemic, the work we do can be unpredictable and challenging - our student rose to the challenge and ensured that they remained up-to-date on the ever-changing policies related to health and safety. This was our first time and we worked with a 4th year student and it was very rewarding for us & for our student. For us, we watched an eager learner open her mind and heart to support clients with dementia & other health challenges. We watched her tackle issues that she had never conceived of and came up with creative ways to engage and bring value and comfort to clients who longed for socio-emotional contact & support. We know that the field of Social Work will be so much better because of the confidence, experience and insights that grew out of this placement & we learned from each other. At Acclaim Health, we offer a very wide range of opportunities for learning and our placement student explored and excelled at filling the role she was offered. It was at lot of work but we have all benefitted greatly from this experience & she even got a paid job/position in our day program after graduation. Joanne Berrigan

We loved working with our intern. It was an extreme honour to help a student learn the ropes of the real world. I loved working with and being a part of the Rexdale Women's centre because I got to work with a population I love and am deeply connected to. Not to mention, apply my knowledge and learn new skills and perspectives while being online and working from home. Being online definitely came with its challenges but I was able to navigate this and become more adaptable and flexible. Adriana Nunez-Granja
My placement was a great learning experience. I got a chance to work more ‘behind the scenes’ rather than directly with clients, which made me realize I would like to go into policy in the future. I got really cool opportunities, like presenting a speech in front of a government committee about Toronto’s budget. I am grateful for the experience I shared with an amazing team! Nishanth Puvanendran
I enjoyed this placement because it took me out of my comfort zone and got me comfortable with facilitating a group and completing intake and needs assessments. I would recommend this placement to anyone who wants to become confident in facilitation and speaking with clients. During this placement, I expanded my knowledge on the social justice system, learned how to work effectively with different cultures and work online completing documents, reports and notes on the progress of all group members. I was surprised how comfortable I was speaking with these individuals as I was originally nervous due to their past of being involved in violence. Luca Ferrante
My placement experience gave me many opportunities to work alongside professionals and clients from a unique community. I was offered support throughout by my supervisor and colleagues and got a chance to learn more about a specific population (individuals with sight loss) by building client and community relations.

I loved working with Toronto Bail Program because of the exposure to every single aspect of the criminal justice system. I worked with bail supervisors, community workers, social workers, probation officers, parole officers, lawyers, the Crown, judges, Justices of the Peace, police officers, and so many more interesting people. I also love my division, where I had the opportunity to support some of the most vulnerable people in our system. Esther Fernandes
My placement was valuable because I was able to get real life experiences of being a police officer. I was also able to learn the things they are required to do and how they are supposed to act in the public. Maryam Akoni
My placement was a great learning experience for me. Being apart of the political system relates with my program since it is a major aspect of our Government system. The environment with Ida is always positive and welcoming. Campaigning with Ida not only gave me the opportunity to speak and connect with the community I live in and view their viewpoints on politics, but I was able to learn a lot concerning the process of being apart of politics. I have had a lot of opportunities with Ida to grow and meet many individuals who are apart of our government system; such as Steven Del Duca.
This experience has also shown me the effects of Covid-19 on many individuals within our community. I have spoken with a variety of individuals with the ages beginning at 18 to 90s. They have all voiced their concerns within the community and how Covid-19 has affect their lives negativity. Majority of the individuals were pleased to have someone to speak to just to have some sort of human contact. This showed me the importance of communication. How just speaking with someone for 5 minutes can make their day in such hard times.
I loved working with Ida and I continue to work with her after my placement period ends. She is an amazing role model. Being a mother of 3, Trustee of Toronto Catholic School Board, and now running for MPP of Humber River-Black Creek, she is a strong woman. I am amazed by her intelligence and strive to be like her in the near future. Mayan Goldberg
My placement taught me the important of community and what happens when people work together and create something great
My placement was valuable because I enjoyed educating the youth on mental health and fitness, I enjoyed collaborating with my peers to come up with lesson plans, and I had the opportunity to interact with officers from different units of the York Regional Police Service. Harmeen Singh
My placement was valuable because it gave me professional skills that I will be able to apply in whatever I decide to work in. Ashleen Khroar
I got to learn a lot about the justice system and familiarize myself with people who have different specializations within the system. It allowed me to find out what justice related jobs are most interesting for me to pursue in the future.
P.S: My bail supervisor Sabrina needs a raise. Lindsey Desousa
I loved working with this organization because it gave me insight into a side of the criminal justice system that I don't learn in classes. It has proved its value in helping me figure out the career I want to pursue in the future. The opportunity to be a placement student has really made my experience in university. Alyssa Gray
My placement was valuable because I learned the different responsibilities of individuals doing research projects. I had the opportunity to assist one of my professors with their research project where I got to transcribe data, code data for relevant themes, attend workshops that discussed knowledge mobilization, and present our research findings. I was impressed by how much these research projects supplemented what I learned in school. It felt holistic to learn about themes of criminal justice in class, and now be able to understand the real life implications within the justice sector.
My placement has been valuable because I made very strong connections with the staff, gained hands on work experience, and developed a lot of confidence in myself and my future Sophia Ture
It was very help in helping me to gain more experience in my field. It will further help with law career. Olivia Detmers
It was very help in helping me to gain more experience in my field. It will further help with law career. Khilant Ramsurn
My placement was valuable because I was able to work alongside many talented individuals. Working under the Settlement Case Worker allowed me to gain an understanding of the Immigration process in Canada. Connecting and being able to communicate with community members in another language allowed me to understand them on a more personable level. I enjoyed being able to provide resources and be more knowledgeable when interacting with the Spanish community. I loved working with this company because they gave me opportunities to work in different sectors of the organization. There would be opportunities to volunteer at the food drive, the women's centre, as well as the front desk. Camila Simbanez
My placement was valuable because I gained a considerable amount of knowledge about family law, and it has made me reconsider becoming a family lawyer because I really enjoyed it. I loved doing my placement at this firm because all the employees are friendly and I feel comfortable coming to them with any questions. As a placement student, I learned what the preparation for an upcoming trial and case conference looks like. Amy Gotkin

My placement was valuable because it was different from my other placements at rehabilitation clinics as I was able to learn more about research. I liked working with this company because the research team I worked with were very knowledgeable on health and kinesiology-related topics, and were great to collaborate with. Noah Ramsammy
I loved working here because of the positive and uplifting environment. This field of health can often be demoralizing in terms of injuries, illness, and overall unhealthy lifestyles. But the providers at my placement were so encouraging about well being and helping others. I learned so many technical skills about modalities, but also about communication and treating patients. Julianna Bianco
I’ve learned so much about networking and professionalism! These opportunities have allowed me to connect with kinesiologists internationally and such a unique experience!
I learned what a position in this field would entail.
I loved working here because I had a lot of say in what I do during my placement. Most students do not get to lead many things in placements and just observe, but i got the opportunity to lead many wellness breaks and take on my own projects! Blessing Mensah
My placement was valuable because I worked with many different kids with different abilities and learned about them. I talked with parents and family members. I learned a lot from therapists and have many skills in my back pocket now. Madeline Ryan
Gave me hands on skills, clinic skills and better understanding of what kinesiologist do everyday. Chloey Pacheco
My placement was valuable because it gave me a better insight into Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O), a field I sparked an interest in during my first year of the kinesiology program. I got to learn about the professions of a prosthetist, orthotist, P&O technician, as well as the populations in this niche yet special field. I was fortunate to have an opportunity to work with 2 companies who shared the same clinic space. Since I was jumping between orthotics and prosthetics, I felt like I was wearing multiple hats which challenged me to learn the purposes behind my responsibilities. It was through this when I saw the concepts learned in the classroom find its way into the workplace. I was impressed by the detail of care and consideration that was put into creating a device/brace for each client. There is a purpose for each individualization and it is refreshing to see even the smallest efforts are taken to ensure clients receive the best care possible. As a placement student, you learn to 'learn' in the workplace. I made many mistakes and came across holes in my knowledge but these were perfect humbling opportunities to learn from professionals who love to share about the work they do. Luca Ferrari
Receiving clinical experience was valuable as it allowed for real life applications of in-class concepts, further expanding on my learning experience. Alex kalli
My placement gave me on the job hours that taught me more about the job. These hours will also be helpful when applying for jobs. Megan Goudreau
I loved working with Cheermed for the past 11 weeks. They were both open and accommodating to the structure of my placement and were very helpful in expanding my skills and knowledge in this field as well as open my eyes to other options in health care. Madison Dempster
My placement was valuable because I was able to develop and apply new skills into a new setting. Kenzie Cameron
Placement was valuable because I gained experience in the workforce that I wouldn't have gotten. It allowed me to try out a career before I decided to go into the field. I learnt what I want for my future, and gained versatile skills that I can apply in any workplace.
Even though I have prior experience in the healthcare industry, it was always surface level jobs like reception. I was in the environment, but not really gaining a lot. Placement provided authentic work experience and I got to work directly with clients and professionals, doing things I would be doing if I was a professional.
I loved working with Andrew and Sam at Bioped Mississauga North as they provided every opportunity to get involved in making orthotics, assessing clients, chiropody, custom knee bracing, and orthopedic shoe fitting and modification. They are an amazing team with expert knowledge and Andrews engineering background gave me a unique skill to look at biomechanics through a mathematical lens. Courtney Wiffen

In return we have found our team stronger and improved by their presence. My placement was at my dream location. From getting into the psychology program, I looked forward to my placement opportunity and how it could help promote my education and networking. As a Research Trainee at CAMH(Centre for Addictions and Mental Health), I got to train under a well-known and prestigious centre in my field. I was able to understand the research area was like and how my role (while small) is still directly helping those with psychological issues and concerns. I helped a program at CAMH that supported children and families who have issues at home or at school, and I remotely created surveys, reviewed assessments, completed data entry, and created file reports. I do wish it was in-person, but I was still very satisfied with my experience! Gabriel Way
I loved my placement. I learned so many invaluable skills and made incredible connections. My placement supervisor has since agreed to be my graduate school supervisor and I will be starting my MSc with them this fall.
