Carol-Anne Hendry

Psychology
Dr. Carol-Anne Hendry is a clinical psychologist who has been teaching with the University of Guelph-Humber since 2010. Dr. Hendry earned her Ph.D. degree in Psychology at the University of Guelph in 2012. She completed her doctoral internship training at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Child, Youth, and Family Program), where she provided support to children and youth presenting with gender identity concerns, addictions, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. She has also completed training at Hamilton Health Sciences, McMaster Children’s Hospital, the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board, and Toronto Catholic District School Board.Dr. Hendry has clinical training and experience working with people ranging in age from six years old to 69 years old, who present with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, addictions, eating disorders, adjustment issues, interpersonal and relational difficulties, and chronic pain. Dr. Hendry has received training in a variety of treatment modalities, but works primarily from an interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) approach with emphasis on mindfulness, acceptance, and emotion focused therapy (EFT). She also provides giftedness screening assessments to children. In addition to teaching at the University of Guelph-Humber and providing clinical services in private practice, she also holds a position as Adjunct Faculty Supervisor at The Centre for Mental Health Research and Treatment, University of Waterloo, and Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct), Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University.

Jonathan Hood

Jonathan Hood, a former linebacker for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL) joined the University of Guelph-Humber in Fall 2017. Hood was led to a career in teaching by his passion for people. This same passion has led him to create a reputation around Canada as a dynamic motivational speaker, a passionate youth mentor, an intense leadership consultant, and a successful entrepreneur. In 2010, he opened his first personal training business which has evolved into a personal coaching business. Hood mentors university students, works with business owners and executives to shift to a higher level of influential leadership. In 2012, he launched The Ahead of the Game Youth Mentoring Program, a leadership program for “at-risk” youth. Hood has recently returned to the University of Western Ontario where he is pursuing a PhD in Leadership and Business Management.

Gavan Howe

Media and Communication Studies
Gavan Howe has taught at the University of Guelph-Humber since 2015. Howe focuses on the lived experience Media Studies learners will embrace as they move from media scholar to media/marketing practitioner. Howe’s research specialty is risk, specifically occupational risk bearing, a condition where highly trained subject matter experts are placed at risk of harm due to circumstances beyond their control. Howe has spoken in Canada and US on his research on risk mitigation has been widely published in: IEEE Journal, VocEd.edu.au, ESAsafe.com, Daily Commercial News, Distributor Magazine, Building Strategies, The Dialogue (OEL), Electrical Business Journal, Journal of Commerce, and the London Free Press. Howe will defend his doctoral dissertation on occupational risk bearing in June 2020.
